World Series of Poker Circuit Harvey's TahoeSat, Nov 15th, 2008 @ 12:00am Chris Dombrowski leads Harvey's WSOP Circuit at end of Day 1
Three former WSOP main event champions started this event, but only one remains. Johnny Chan got short-stacked early and ended up committing the last of his chips with the nut flush draw on the flop. He made his flush on the turn, but his opponent boated up on the river to bust the Chan-man. 2007 champ Jerry Yang got the last of his chips in with pocket Queens, but his opponent made two pair and the Shadow vanished during level 4. Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson is the only main event winner who will return for day two.
Two-time bracelet winners Jeff Madsen and Max Pescatori suffered similar fates during the day. Jeff's pocket Queens were cracked by AQ and Max picked the wrong time to put on the squeeze play. Other WSOP bracelet holders who played and were railed: Dan Heimiller and Matt Keikoan.
Former NBA player Ken 'the Snake' Norman, who cashed at the last circuit event at the Horseshoe Hammond, played in this event and despite making a great laydown of pocket Queens pre-flop, (against pocket Kings) was unable to get any momentum and was busted.
Chris Dombrowski of Wesley Chapel, FL, spent the day slowly and quietly building his stack. He finished the day in the lead with 104,100 chips. He will be joined on day 2 by WSOP bracelet holders Scott Clements, Kathy Liebert, and Robert 'RCW' Cheung. Other pros who will return on day 2: Allen 'Chainsaw' Kessler, Michael Binger, Tim Vance, and Yosh Nakano.
Eight levels of play on day 1 whittled the starting field of 132 down to only 55 survivors. They will return at noon pacific time Saturday to continue play. 18 will get paid and the winner will walk away with more than $181,000, plus a seat in the 2009 WSOP main event.
