World Series of Poker Event 18: Daniel Alaei Wins 2nd BraceletWed, Jun 10th, 2009 @ 12:00am This afternoon at the World Series of Poker, 17 players returned for the final day of Event 18 - 10K Omaha Hi/Low 8 or Better. With a star studded field it would be a very entertaining day of poker. First to hit the rail today was Toto Leonidas who went out in 17th place after missing his low and having his 4's go down to 5's. Alex Kravchenko was out in 16th when he couldn't make the low and his opponent had a full-house. Pat Pezzin was the next to fall and Ted Lawson was out soon after that. Both would have to be content with cashing in this event. 2 others were also eliminated quickly after this round and we were down to 13 players. Jacob Fernandez was our final table bubble boy, going out in 10th and setting the final table for us. This would be a very competitve table as Annie Duke, Daniel Negreanu, Scott Clements, and Daniel Alaei were all there. First to exit the final table was Rich Zhu when Greg Jamison flopped a set of 9's and Zhu couldn't catch up on the turn or river. Annie Duke raced out of the room to make it to her other event after being eliminated in 8th place. In a hand with both John Monnette and Greg Jamison she couldn't get the cards to keep her in and would have to settle for making it to the final table. Even though he was able to help knock-out Annie Duke, Greg Jamison couldn't get any help himself. After raising he was called by Daniel Negreanu and just couldn't catch up. He hit the rail in 7th and earned $77,736 in prize money. John Monnette was eliminated in 5th place after moving all-in for his last 15K and being called by both Ben Boyd and Daniel Alaei. After betting into the side pot on all other streets, Boyd ended up with the winning straight, beating Alaei and knocking out Monnette. After being the most entertaining player at the final table, and continuously moving all-in, Daniel Negreanu was eliminated in 4th place. Scott Clements raised from UTG and Daniel, who had been short-stacked for a while, reluctantly shoved the rest of his chips in, but when Clements turned the wheel, it was all she wrote for Daniel. He left the table to large applause from the audience. Ben Boyd would leave us in 3rd place. In a similar situation as Negreanu, he was having to move all-in any hand he played, and he finally ran out of cards and would leave the table to Clements and Alaei. On just the first hand heads-up, Clements moved all-in and Daniel Alaei made the call. Clements was drawing dead after the turn and he would have to be content as the runner-up. Daniel Alaei was able to wade through not only a tough event, but a very tough final table to take home the first place cash and the coveted WSOP bracelet. We congratulate Daniel for his great finish and his 2nd bracelet. Final Results: For live coverage of the Final Table and final day of Event #18, click here.
