World Series of Poker Event 33: Greg Mueller is $10K World ChampionThu, Jun 18th, 2009 @ 12:00am At the World Series of Poker Event 33, Day 3 of the $10,000 World Championship Limit Event started out with 12 players vying for the bracelet. Jennifer Harman, who was once the chip leader in the event, came into the final day as the short stack. She would not be able to overcome that obstacle and ended up being the first player to depart. The remaining 10 players would follow her on the way to crowning Greg "FBT" Mueller the champion. Mueller had a dominating chip lead when play began heads up against Pat Pezzin. He was able to hold on and claim the bracelet and the $460,836 first place prize.
Many pros were eliminated on the way to the final table including Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Ralph Perry, and Todd Brunson. However, the final table still had some of the biggest names in poker. Matt Hawrilenko is known as "HossTBF" online and is known as one of the best Limit Hold'em players around. He came in to the final table 3rd in chips and was just waiting to pounce on his opponents. He was not able to get anything going at the final table, but he did finish with a good showing in 5th place. Daniel Alaei and Chad Brown would be eliminated on the way to the final 2. Greg Mueller even made a straight flush to chip down Chad Brown. Pat Pezzin was able to double up through Chad Brown to stay alive. He came in as a big underdog. However, with the likes of Daniel Negreanu sweating you, he was certain he could make a comeback. Greg Mueller had some of his own friends chanting in the crowd. The chant became "Sui" and his friend's said that it was Mueller's alter ego, but did not go into much detail. Everytime Mueller would win a pot, they would all chant loudly. Mueller could not contain his laughter throughout the final table. When heads up play began, Mueller showed no signs of letting go. Pezzin was not going to give up on the match though. Heads up play only lasted a short time as Pezzin could not catch the cards he needed. He finally got it all in with ten eight offsuit and was not able to connect against Mueller's pocket fives. Pat Pezzin had a great final table and he took home $285,196 for his finish. Greg "FBT" Mueller is the champion of the $10,000 Limit event and takes home his first bracelet.
