World Series of Poker Event 37: Jeffey Lisandro Wins 2nd 2009 WSOP Bracelet

by PokerPages.com
Sun, Jun 21st, 2009 @ 12:00am

The $10,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo Event saw 164 hopefuls register for their chance to be recognized in history. As with any big buy in event at the World Series, many of the big names were present. Doyle Brunson, Barry Greenstein, Chau Giang, Eli Elezra, Howard Lederer, Phil Ivey, and Jennifer Harman were just a few of the big names that were seen on Day 1. Sebastain Ruthenberg, the defending champion, was also present to defend his title.

As expected with limit events, the field didn't break down very quickly, and 111 players returned to play Day 2. Tuan Le started Day 2 as the overall chip leader, but by the end of the day he had been eliminated just before the money. Howard Lederer, Erik Seidel, and John Juanda were some of the big names that would not continue on to the final day of play. However, Scotty Nguyen, Jeff Lisandro, Doyle Brunson, and Justin 'Boosted J' Smith were among the big names to make it to the final twelve.

After play started at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Lyle Berman was the first to go in 12th place. Players continued to be eliminated until it came down to the final two. All that was left was Farzad Rouhani and Jeff Lisandro. For a round or two, it seemed like it was going to be a pretty quick match up. Then Rouhani took the lead over Lisandro and had him 4:1 in chips. However, Lisandro proved that he wanted the win and fought his way back to the chip leader. After hours of playing heads up, Lisandro took Rouhani out a little after 4 a.m. Jeff 'Iceman' Lisandro claims his second 2009 WSOP bracelet and $431,656 in cash.
