World Series of Poker Event 46: Derek Raymond WinsFri, Jun 26th, 2009 @ 12:00am Derek Raymond survived a stacked field of 424 to pick up his first WSOP cash and a shiny new bracelet in the $2,500 Omaha Hi/Lo event. After two long days, there were still 23 left to begin Day 3. Mike Matusow was among the first to go, followed a few places later by C.K. Hua. John Monette finished in 10th place, just short of the final table. The last nine standing included some formidable pros. Pat Poels began the final table as the short stack, and the owner of two WSOP bracelets went down in 9th place. Mark Gregorich left his 2nd final table of 2009 in 8th. Michael Keiner, who picked up a bracelet in 2007, busted in 7th. Sirous Jamshidi, best known for his deep run in the 2006 Main Event, finished in 6th. After Jamshidi's exit, the rail began to fill with online notables, every Italian poker player in 30-mile radius, and even WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack. The mix made for a very entertaining few hours. When Fabio Coppola busted in 4th, taking his contingent of railbirds including Dario Minieri and Max Pescatori with him, the final table got considerably quieter. Action slowed down as the final three battled back and forth. Eventually Scott Bohlman was ground out in 3rd place, picking up his 13th World Series cash. Mark Tenner and Derek Raymond were roughly even in chips when they began playing heads up. Despite huge blinds, they battled each other for more than two hours before Raymond pulled out a victory. He earned $229,192 for his first WSOP paycheck. Tenner, a Henderson resident, had six previous WSOP cashes, including a 4th place finish in Razz last year. He takes home $141,647 for 2nd place.
