WPT Legends of Poker Main Event Begins Saturday

Hard to believe, but it has been more than a month since the craziness of the World Series of Poker was put on a 117 day break. Now it is time for the serious tournament players to get back to business with the Legends of Poker (LOP) at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles. Preliminary events and satellites began on way back on July 30th and run daily through August 22nd. The main event, with a buy-in of $9,800+$200, begins at 2:15 p.m. PDT on Saturday, August 23rd.

The main event will run for six days, culminating with the final table of six sitting for the WPT cameras on Thursday, August 28th at 5pm PDT.

Last year it was Dan Harrington who emerged victorious after a three-hour heads-up battle with eventual second-place finisher David 'the Dragon' Pham. Harrington's victory over the field of 485 players earned him just over $1.6 million, bringing his lifetime tournament earnings to over $6 million. This was Harrington's first WPT title. The Dragon had to settle for just over $800,000.

So far, the story of the 2008 LOP has been Men 'the Master' Nguyen. Nguyen already has already picked up a couple tournament wins on the LOP undercard. Just two days after mastering a final table that featured November Niner Kelly Kim to take down the Event #13, $300 + $35 No Limit Hold'em w/Rebuys event and $65,700, Nguyen would grab his second win of the 2008 LOP, the Event #15, $500 + $45 Omaha Hi/Lo, title worth another $20,535.
