NewJane Interviews AJD804, the Top PSO Finishers at the US Poker Championship

NewJane: Congratulations on your excellent finish at the Live Tour event! Tell us about the event that qualified you for the Live Tour Final tourney next year.

AJD804: It was a $500 buy in during the US Poker Championship at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City.

NewJane: Tell us some interesting facts about your life, such as place of employment, family matters, hobbies, or educational background.

AJD804: I live in South Jersey just outside of Philadelphia; I make pizza for a living, which means I don't have too many enemies, because who hates the pizza man.

NewJane: Give us a little glimpse into your poker background. How long have you played? Do you prefer online play or live? Where is your favorite place to play live? Do you like tournaments or ring games? What is your game of choice?

AJD804: I have been playing poker for a very long time, but seriously playing since 2003. I play both online and live, but I prefer playing live at the Taj Mahal or Borgata in AC. I like both ring games and tournaments but I'm better at tournaments and still fine tuning my ring game play. Usually it is NLHE in both types of games, but I do dabble in LHE.

NewJane: How long have you been a member of PSO?

AJD804: I have been at PSO since December of 2003.

NewJane: What do you think was your greatest strength in the tourney? Your biggest weakness?

AJD804: In this particular tourney my strength was my patience because I wasn't getting anything to play. And my weakness was not taking advantage of my ultra tight image to steal more hands.

NewJane: Do you remember any key hands you want to tell us about? Positive or Negative outcomes…

AJD804: The only hand that mattered for me in the tourney was the one I busted on. I was seated on Scott Fischman's left and watched him go from 5k in chips to well over 50k in about 2 hours, and was unable to do anything about it. When the blind were at 400/800 and a 100 ante, it was folded to him on the button and he limped. I looked down at A10o and went all in for 7800. The BB folded and after a bit of deliberation Scott called and turned over A3o. The flop came 10 5 2 turn brought a 4 and the river a 6. I was devastated and left immediately for home.

NewJane: What are some of the differences you notice in online play as opposed to live play?

AJD804: I notice that there are a lot more very loose calls online, and I attribute that to the lack of accountability. And what I mean by that is, there is no one sitting across from you as there is in a live game, so the embarrassment factor of a terrible play isn't there. I think this is the main reason it appears there are a ton more bad beats online than live.

NewJane: If you could have dinner with any current poker tourney pro, who would it be and what would be the question you would ask first?

AJD804: I would want to eat dinner with Cyndi Violette, and my first question to her would be, "Would you like to go out for drinks after dinner?"

NewJane: What poker books have helped your game?

AJD804: The two books that stick out in my mind as helping me the most are Super System and Ace on the River

NewJane: What new poker games are you interested in learning?

AJD804: I would like to learn the ins and outs of Omaha hi/lo; I may be the worst player ever in this game.

NewJane: Here is your chance to address anything I neglected to ask that you are dying to share.

AJD804: The only thing I would like to add is my thanks to everyone in charge at PSO for giving us the opportunity to play for these sponsorship dollars. I'm really looking forward to the Live Final at the next convention.
