NewJane Interviews Clay Knight, Top PSO Finisher at the The Big One 5 - Spring Playoff

NewJane: Congratulations on your excellent finish at the Live Tour event! Tell us about the event that qualified you for the Live Tour Final tourney next year.

Clay Knight: I decided that 'The big one' would be the perfect last event for me at PSO. I had not played any events there all year. I noticed a last chance event at 9am my time, only 14 entries, top 6 got entry. I played ultra aggressive and then got pretty unlucky heads up and came 2nd. So the big one came around. I had an 'x' qualification which meant I had to win to get anything. I had only made the final table once before finishing 4th and winning 3000 sponsorship points. Today I just played for fun but it went well and with 14 left a friend told me that the final table came back next week for a live tour seat, I had completely forgotten. I ended up finishing 2nd. Annoyingly if I'd won my last chance event this 2nd would have been worth something. The live tour play off meant I couldn't leave PSO yet, and then it was postponed due to a server crash. About 3 weeks later it finally happened. I only had to finish top 4 of 10. I got rich when I hit a set of 4s and AA moved all in on the flop. With 5 left I then won about 20 of the next 30 hands, it was pretty easy, 19k became 29k without a showdown, then 5th went out, we had all won a seat. We decided to play it out and I finished 2nd... damn, I just realised, the whole journey involved 3 events, I was 2nd in all 3, which means I lost heads up 3 out of 3!

NewJane: Tell us some interesting facts about your life, such as place of employment, family matters, hobbies, or educational background.

Clay Knight: Married with 4 children, nothing in the world can touch that. I play poker from home and my hobbies are Singing and Chess. With regret I did no work at school, I excelled in maths and did maths and business at a-level.

NewJane: Give us a little glimpse into your poker background. How long have you played? Do you prefer online play or live? Where is your favorite place to play live? Do you like tournaments or ring games? What is your game of choice?

Clay Knight: I've played for 4 years, 1 year full time. I have only played live twice, both paid for with PSO sponsorship. British Open..7th of 171..£6,510. Gutshot festival 55th of 110. I prefer tournaments. I rarely play anything other than NLHE and PLHE.

NewJane: How long have you been a member of PSO?

Clay Knight: 3 1/2 years

NewJane: What do you think was your greatest strength in the tourney? Your biggest weakness?

Clay Knight: I will struggle to get to America to play so my biggest strength and weakness were the same thing. It meant less to me, this meant I was careless but with 5 left I won most hands.

NewJane: Do you remember any key hands you want to tell us about? Positive or Negative outcomes…

Clay Knight: Limped with 44 they was a raise and a call, I called knowing AA or KK was out there, maybe both so knew I could double up here, I hit my 4, and AA went all in. UTG raised big I re raised with JJ, flop TT4, he went all in, I took a while but folded JJ, he showed QQ.

NewJane: What are some of the differences you notice in online play as opposed to live play?

Clay Knight: Live it was easier to steal and easier to stop others stealing, 3 times I called a river bet with ace high and won.

NewJane: If you could have dinner with any current poker tourney pro, who would it be and what would be the question you would ask first?

Clay Knight: Devilfish... can I play you heads up and can you give me some tips.

NewJane: What poker books have helped your game?

Clay Knight: Not read any.

NewJane: What new poker games are you interested in learning?

Clay Knight: Omaha... I can play, but not on the level I want to.

NewJane: Here is your chance to address anything I neglected to ask that you are dying to share.

Clay Knight: Umm, what are these interviews for? PSO forum?
