NewJane Interviews expatcr, who won a Seat in the PSO Grand Live Tour Final 2006NewJane: Congratulations on your excellent finish at the Live Tour event! Tell us about the event that qualified you for the Live Tour Final tourney next year.expatcr: I qualified thru the summer2006 Big One final table and the playoff for four spots which I squeaked thru. NewJane: Tell us some interesting facts about your life, such as place of employment, family matters, hobbies, or educational background. expatcr: I am retired from employment at various racetracks; several in Florida and others in Arkansas, New Orleans, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky and finally Wisconsin. When I left Wisconsin I went to California and worked at a casino. NewJane: Give us a little glimpse into your poker background. How long have you played? Do you prefer online play or live? Where is your favorite place to play live? Do you like tournaments or ring games? What is your game of choice? expatcr: NLHE is about my only game now, although when I started years ago we played stud and draw poker. And as a teenager a game we called knock rummy which we played at the golf course after caddying. NewJane: How long have you been a member of PSO? expatcr: About a year and a half. NewJane: What do you think was your greatest strength in the tourney? Your biggest weakness? expatcr: In the Big One tourneys I think one must start with extreme patience because you are going to be playing some seven hours. Then discipline and learning the other players is important.. Weakness-sometimes I find it difficult classifying the players as the good ones do switch up. NewJane: What are some of the differences you notice in online play as opposed to live play? expatcr: Online play is often quite wild and I read where some of the top online players play several tournaments simultaneously….seems impossible to me. NewJane: If you could have dinner with any current poker tourney pro, who would it be and what would be the question you would ask first? expatcr: Tough choice. Maybe with Humberto Brenes in San Jose, Costa Rica. Questions-- Probably about how he got started, and did the brothers play together at home. [He has a younger brother, Eric, who is an extremely strong player but spends most of his time I think in Costa Rica and only plays part-time now.] NewJane: What poker books have helped your game? expatcr: Harrington's books for NLHE but I think Sklansky's Theory of Poker is probably just as valuable for those who play several games. NewJane: What new poker games are you interested in learning? expatcr: I admire those who can play well at several games but I am still working on this one [NLHE] NewJane: Here is your chance to address anything I neglected to ask that you are dying to share. expatcr: I would like to thank Aaron [thehazyone] because I think it unlikely that I would have ever won at PSO against these fields without his courses and encouragement. NewJane: Thanks, Bill, for answering the questions! Best of luck to you in the Live Tour Finale!
