Las Vegas, NV (July 29, 2004) - The newest addition to the 15-tournament WORLD POKER TOUR series, The Mirage, made its debut on the WORLD POKER TOUR today with the start of The Mirage Poker Showdown.

The event kicks off the third season of filming in the U.S. for the WORLD POKER TOUR. 281 players entered the $10,200 buy-in event with total prize money more than $2.7 million. The winner will receive $1,024,574 and will advance to the WPT Championship at the end of the season in April 2005 at Bellagio.

Some of the most recognizable faces playing at the tables include poker pros Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke, Phil Ivey, Scotty Nguyen, Phil Laak and T.J. Cloutier, as well as actors James Woods and Tobey Maguire, who won his seat in a super-satellite prior to the tournament.

The tournament concludes on Sunday, August 1, 2004 with the taping of the final table for the WORLD POKER TOUR series on Travel Channel. WPT fans are welcome to come watch the television taping of the final table on Sunday at 4:00 pm in The Mirage Events Center. Seats are available on a first come-first served basis. WORLD POKER TOUR airs every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Travel Channel.

Eighty percent owned by Lakes Entertainment, Inc., the World Poker Tour draws a weekly television audience of approximately five million viewers and is the highest rated series in the history of Travel Channel. Last year, the WPT awarded more than $35 million to players.
