Play Small Ball to Manage the Size of the Pot,
Big Ball to Build the Pot

Playing small ball simply means that unless you have the stone nuts, you don’t create huge pots in no-limit hold’em. You want to win smaller pots and have them build up in your stack. That’s small ball, and it’s a viable approach. It’s pretty much what you do in multi-day tournaments as a regular part of your play.

A 1000 Mile Journey Starts With A Single Step

I just literally signed up for Poker Pages free school. I haven't even looked at it yet to know if this is okay for my first entry or not. This is going to be a long journey for me and I think my weakest point is the discipline to stick with this. Maybe I can find someone to hold me accountable :) !

Newby

Hi,
I'm new to this blog situation.
I'm retired Air Force and worked in a Bridgestone/Firestone plant as a mechanic for 21 years.
Now I don't have to work... but still have to pay the bills, so I play for free. Can't afford to lose any money but I love to play poker. Started playing while in Vietnam. Lost a lot...
I now play no limit Texas Holdem mostly and am trying to get good enough to win a tournament.

Heading out to the casino

Well, we're going to Ho Chunk on Thursday for a couple of days. They have a 1-2 no limit game every day. Should be interesting. Still maintaining around 38% cash in on line. We'll see how it goes at a live table Thursday. I feel pretty good about it and am predicting that I will come home with some cash winnings. Maybe not much, but I am not going to lose....period.

My Limited Poker Experience

I started watching poker on TV several years ago and found it very appealing. I began reading poker books and started playing 1-3 Limit at a local casino. Did not do well and didn't enjoy it much. Lots of agressive play with poor hands that turned out ok due to EVERYBODY staying in to the end. I didn't last long, giving up after a couple months. I bought some simulation software and signed up with Poker Stars and started playing the same games with play money. Same results. Then I found 1-2 no limit and started to enjoy it more and started winning more.
