Sherry Scoops 'em Up

Aside from having one eye glued to televised election results, the contestants at yesterdays $550 Omaha Hi-Lo Split, 8 or Better event would have to keep one eye keenly on the game in progress. As many Americans were heading off to vote, 87 intrepid Omaha players sat in on the event which was held here at Foxwoods Resort Casino.

The final table was formed from the remaining nine players at just before 7:00 last evening, and would almost immediately see the two short stacks eliminated. First would be Peter Sares of Williamson, Massachusetts who took a blind all-in and was ousted by the trip 6's held by George Bartlett of (I'm not making this up) Clinton, Maryland.

Eighth place would be claimed by Foxwoods favorite Elias Eoanou of Westerly, Rhode Island when it was his turn to play all-in on a blind. Eoanou made a pair of 10's and an Ace, 4 for low, but Lin Poo Wang of White Plains, New York would pull trip Trey's to go with his Ace, Deuce low.

The remaining players then tightened up until almost an hour passed between evictions. It would be Brent Carter of Oak Park, Illinois who would play a King Queen straight draw and making Queens up to break the deadlock. Carter's hand would be beat by the Aces up belonging to Bob Sherry who hails from Beltsville, Maryland.

Lin Wang of White Plains, New York would be next to force an early exit as he made Jacks up to beat the Aces of Barry Bindelglass from Boca Raton, Florida.

After another long stretch without any eliminations, Sherry would work both Vince Burgio of West Hills, California and Bartlett all-in on the same hand. Burgio missed all his draws while Bartlett made a pair of Treys, as both men watched Sherry roll over trip 8's.

Third place would belong to Charles Boncich of Huntington, New York. Boncich who placed in the money earlier in this years tournament in the $220 Omaha event was trying to capture the title again after having won it at this Years "New England Poker Classic" tournament. With his pair of Kings and a missed straight draw, Boncich would lose out to Sherry's two pair.

The end came soon for the remaining players, Lin Wang and Bob Sherry as Sherry worked the blinds to force Wang all-in. With little fanfare, Sherry showed 10's full for the win and another championship.

Congratulations Bob Sherry, as fine a champion as there is!
