Stud Event Begins
By Steven E. Way

The first day of 4 p.m. tournament starts is now underway here at Foxwoods Resort Casino. Yesterday's $1,080 7-Card Stud event began with a field of 98 players and was book ended by super satellites and single table satellites for most of the day and evening.

The schedule, new this year, is intended to ease the pace of play somewhat and to provide ample opportunity for players to get into as many satellites as they wish, Beginning at about noon tomorrow, the final group of players will reconvene in the to finish the contest.

Tournament Director Mike Ward, a transplanted Missourite, made the schedule changes based on player input, and believe that it will be a major improvement in the tournament, allowing more players to participate in more events.

The prize pool for this event, another Foxwoods record, is a total of $103,000, Including the $5,000 added by Foxwoods. For first place, the winner will be getting $42,400, while an additional seven players will be "in-the-money."

Huck Sails On Home

At noon in the tournament area. That was the challenge issued to the final eight contestants early in the morning yesterday for resumption of the $1,080 buy-in 7-Card Stud event. The event, being held here at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut started the previous day with 98 contestants.

The remaining players were all seated as veteran Tournament Director Mike Ward went through the player introductions, and reviewed the events rules.

The players with short stacks would be looking to quickly double up whenever possible in an effort to stave off elimination as the limits were raised. First to try, and ultimately fail, was Anthony Cousineau of Daytona Beach, Florida.

Then it was Harry Weaver of Forty-Fort, Pennsylvania. Harry would have more chips to work with, but again would be leaving the contest in seventh place.

Martin Stilling of Hope Valley, Rhode Island would hand on just enough to capture the sixth place prize of $5,555.

Richard Ricci of Clinton, Connecticut would then start to make his move as he forced Jeff Calkins of New York, New York all-in with up. Ricci, playing rolled up Queens would take the pot and enough chips to mount a substantial battle.

Forth place would then be decided when Bobby Sarkar of Lexington, Massachusetts would go all-in. Paul Darden of New Haven, Connecticut would use trip Aces to claim the pot and reduce the field to three handed.

It would soon be Ricci's turn to bid his fellow players adieu. Playing Kings, Ricci went all-in and could only watch as Huck Seed who hails from San Jose, California would take it down with 8's up.

The end would come fairly quick for Darden after being left short stacked from some of the contests with Ricci. After surviving a number of all-in's, Darden finally committed his chips with a pair of 5's. Seed called holding Queens and with no help for either man, Seed would claim his first victory of the 2000 world Poker Finals.

Congratulations Huck!
