Tournament Report

Pay back time from Jan Hansen

After several attempts throughout the last 3 years, it was finally time for former WSOP Omaha winner Jan Hansen to claim a payout at the 7th Danish 7-card championship. Never even made it to the semifinals, this year it was all the way at Royal Scandinavian Casino beating a field of 202 players, including the first 2 finnish players at the Danish tournament scene, for a record pricepool of 460.128 danish kroner (61.928 euro).

Things were a bit up side down this year, meaning that 2 times winner and defending champion Brian Buchhave after attempting all 3 preelimainary heats, didn’t make it through to the last 21 players reaching the semifinals. The final table said goodbye to Frank Koopmann of Germany after only 4 hands after a very focused and concentrated performance, but even though the tournament was set 1 level back for the final table, he was too shortstacked.

Same precedure was to eliminate both Erik Larsen and Poul Dahlgaard just 2 hands later when Jan Hansen made his first move at the final table. After 20 hands Morten Junior and his pair of queens lost his last chips to Uffe Kristiansen and his triple 9īs. The final 3 players had Jan Hansen (J.H.) as chipleader, former Royal Casino dealer Uffe Hvirring (U.H.) just a couple of chips behind, and Uffe Kristiansen (U.K.) another small step behind. His attempt to make a deal was quickly turned down by U.H. who really had his nose aimed for the big payout.

Hand 23 saw the first 3 way action and the first major pot was bought by U.H. before the last card. Hand 32 made U.K.’s last chips go in J.H.īs direction leaving him as chipleader. Even though it was a double up pay-out structure between 1st and 2nd place a deal was never even mentioned. The following hands saw a very aggressive J.H. consequently raising U.H.īs forced bets making U.H.
going all-in in both hand 37 and 38. Luck was on U.H.īs side but again 3 raises bought J.H. 3 pots having U.H. going all-in again in hand 46. This was to be the last of luck for U.H.

Hand 50 dealt the final cards for this years championship when his possible flush never came out leaving him ace high. This was enough until the very last card of the tournament gave J.H. a pair of kings, 24.833 euro and the title as Danish Champion in 7-card Stud Poker 2004.
