Tournament Report
John Farley
|
This 27 year old, NY Yankees fan was told this would be his lucky day, when he registered for the Tournament, and alas it was, as he landed in seat #5 (the number of Joe DiMaggio) at the final table with $32,000 chips. Farley outlasted 348 other players to win the opening event of the 2000 United States Poker Championship , at The Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City.
Though John now resides in Chicago whree he works as a Stock-options trader, he is still a Philly Guy to the locals.
.John began his poker career about six years ago, playing Stud, but turned into a Hold 'em player, and what a hold'em player he has turned out to be.
This is only the second freezeout type event John has entered. Sunday he won a Super Satellite which awarded him a seat in the championship event to be played on December 13th. Today he proudly took first in this Limit Hold'em event, winning $38,739.00.
Farley's final opponent sat just two seats away in seat #3, with $10,000 in chips. Satish Vitha grew up in Chicago, but resides in New York City, where he is a businessman. Satish began playing poker about 4 years ago and began tournament play about 2 years ago. His skill in conjunction with his tournament experience assistedhim in the 2nd place finish, taking home $19,893.00.
Michael Laing ws the third place finisher, winning $9,946.50. What to say about Michael....Michael also once a
"Philly Guy" now living in Las Vegas, has been a poker professional for about 10 years.
This was the first of seventeen tournaments events that will take place over a consecutive 19 day period. All Tournaments will begin and end on the same day, with the exception of the Championship (No Limit) Hold'em ,which will culminate on December 15th, when the new Millenium Champion of the United States Poker Championship will be honored. This Prestigious event will have a $7600 buy-in and will attract professional as well as amateur poker players world-wide.
We wihs a pleasant experience and good luck to all participants. |
