Tournament Report
Only 23 years old, and a true poker success story. Phillip D Ivey 2nd, has been playing poker just a short time. It was almost 3 years ago when he first came into the Taj Mahal poker room, looked around, got into a $1-5 stud game, and decided then that money could be made at this game. What a foresight and determination!
Phil is the 'Tiger Woods' of poker, quiet, courteous ,polite and a true powerhouse.
With 3 tables left in the event, Khenh (Kenny, whom you've read about in the previous 4 issues),approached his friend Phil and gave him a good luck rub. Phil knew it was all over then. Yes, Phil was on his way to the money.
An all around professional with high spirit, Phil has set his sights on additional gold watch. It is seen in the cards, there is a future for Phil Ivey in poker.
Finishing 2nd, taking home $20,045 is a sales rep for Compaq Computers, Peter Giordano Jr, like many other poker players, Peter began playing on the kitchen table with his parents. Exactly 2 years ago to date, Peter won the Limit Hold 'em Bonus Tournament, here at the USPC, surpassing a pool of 108 other entrants, and has already won 5 satellite in this years USPC. Keep it up Peter, your wife Sue is enjoying all the shopping. Next stop the World Series.
Until recently, Canada had poker games for charity and this is how our 3rd place finisher was introduced to the game. Last year, David took 5th place in this same event, with 123 entrants.
The key hand for David, (holding 5-7 spades), was a bet on the flop...Q-4-5, Peter calls, Phil folds. Heads up, Q on the turn, Peter bets all-in. After serious contemplation, David called with the best hand. A 10 comes on the river, giving Peter Qs and 10s, to David's Qs and 5s.
This was the seventh of seventeen tournament events that will take place over a consecutive 19 day period. The Championship No Limit Hold 'em event will be played over a 3-day period, commencing on December 13th, and culminating with the crowning of the new USPC Champion on the 15th of December.
We wish a pleasant experience and good luck to all participants. |
