Tournament Report
Patience Reward For
NZ Poker Champion
Patience was the key to Constantin Harach winning the New Zealand poker championship against 65 contestants at Christchurch Casino on Saturday.
The Wellington hairdresser came from last at the final table to collect the $15,000 first prize, adding to his long list of poker tournament titles.
'I held the smallest stake going into the last ten, using a conservative strategy to survive a lot of poor hands,' he said.
'After I won a few chips and began to play aggressively, it all came together in the final stages.
'In cards as in everything else, patience is a virtue.'
Constantin has won high profile poker tournaments in Australia and Europe as one of the country's most successful players.
He finished third in the 2003 New Zealand tournament at the casino.
