| The California Ladies State Poker Championship was held on September 21st - 25th at Ocean Eleven Casino, in Oceanside. This is the 4th year this event has been held and each year more and more ladies travel from all over California, the United States and Canada to attend an event that celebrates women in the poker world.
192 ladies competed in 5 different events including Texas Hold 'em, 7 Card Stud & Omaha. Each hoping to earn the title of California Ladies State Poker Champian, awarded to the all around best player for the 5-day event. Lulan Swanson of OCeanside, CA earned the title with a first place victory in the Limit Hold 'em event and 6th place win in the "Tag Team" 1/2 Omaha Hi/Lo and 1/2 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo Event. Lulan will represent California in the World Series of Poker, Ladies Event in 2001 and in other ladies poker tournaments. Her entry fees and lodging will be paid by Ocean's Eleven Casino.
The competition was fierce, however, "when the dealing's done" ladies enjoyed each other's company during many planned activities through out the event.
Marketing Director, Billie Brown, General Manager, Bob Moyer and Tournament Director, Star McCormick hosted the event and are already making plans for next years' California Ladies State Poker Championship. |
