Tournament Report
Bau Le Capitalizes on Second Final Table
Tunica Mississippi (January 15, 2006)
Bau Le came in 4th place at the Gold Strike World Poker Open's Event #2. He felt he had not played his best and if given another chance, he would try to capitalize on his experience. Well give Bau Le an'A” for a lesson learned – that and the bracelet for Event #5.
Many of the final tables here at the Gold Strike WPO have played relatively fast. But from the time Tournament Director John Nieznanski said'shuffle up and deal” today, we knew we were in for prolonged battle. It was over an hour into the tournament before we lost our first player. Will Rountree, short stacked at the time, pushed in with J9 versus Bill Edler's A9. The end result was predictable, and Will Rountree went out in 9th place.
In a struggle that was likely to end in someone's demise, Mark Fleddermann and Blaise Ingoglia each went all-in with exactly 64,000 in chips. Ingoglia showed an AK to Fleddermann's AT. A king on the turn further strengthened Ingoglia's hand and Fleddermann finished 8th.
There was a series of skirmishes, where the short stacks all seemed to double up with aplomb. It was, again, more than an hour by the time we lost our next player. Dwayne Moyers moved in with AT and got called by Mark Wilds' pocket deuces. While the flop of KKJ held hope for Moyers, a deuce on the turn dashed it. Dwayne Moyers finished in 7th place. Five minutes later John Hanley went out in 6th place when his KJ couldn't improve against Mark Wilds' pocket nines.
Blaise Ingoglia came over the top of Bau Le's raise to put himself all-in with QJ. Le called in a heartbeat with AK. An ace fell on the flop and the rest of the board brought no salvation for Blaise Ingoglia, who finished in 5th place.
Bill Edler called down Jarodd Lawson's all-in pre-flop re-raise. Edler's A5 was the underdog to Lawson's AJ. But a five fell on the flop, and held, to put Jarodd Lawson out in 4th place. Bill Edler doubled up Mark Wilds, whose pocket tens prevailed. Soon after, Edler came over the top of a raise by Wilds, only to see his KQ matched up against Wilds' AQ. A low board sent Bill Edler home in 3rd place.
In the first hand of heads-up, both Bau Le and Mark WIlds went all-in on a rag flop. Le showed pocket kings to Wilds' middle pair and flush draw. Bau doubled up when Wilds' outs didn't materialize. Le put it away on the next hand, calling Wilds' all-in flop bet, when Le's double gut shot straight draw filled on the river. Bau Le wanted a second chance at a bracelet, and today he played for it - and got it.
