Tournament Report

When the final table of the $600 No-Limit Championship of the 2006 Foxwoods Poker Classic began, no one had fewer chips than David Zeitlin. But when the day was done, he had all the chips, a commemorative jacket, the Championship Trophy and , most importantly, $127,293 to take home to New York City!
Eleven players of the 854 who started the competition returned to action today to compete for the remainder of the $452,620 prize pool. It took only one hand for the final table to be established. Michael Giurleo, Somerville, MA, went all-in with AK; he could not improve and Joseph Baron with pocket 8's relegated Mike to 11th position with $7,956. Evan Mandery was the first to leave the final table. He was all-in with Q8 but David had pocket 9's which held. Evan, who hails from Great Neck, NY, won $9,092 for his efforts.
Shortly thereafter, Joseph Baron, a resident of Cambridge, MA, went all-in after a flop of Q36 with 610. Unfortunately, George Billias had AQ which left Joseph in 9th place with $10,229. James Debreceni, Londonderry, VT, was all-in with A9 after a 6AQ flop; he had to settle for 8th position when David out-kicked him with A10.
Jim went home with $11,366. David added to his ever increasing stack when his pocket 6's held against Logan Schiff's K9. Logan would return to Cambridge, MA with $13,638. Patrick Coughlin of Hanover, MA, had begun the day as chip leader but saw his stack erode as he twice lost big hands with AJ. Once to AQ and the last time to Robert Sciammarella's AK. Patrick collected 6th place money of $15,912. Firas Haddad was down to the felt but clawed back into contention. His pocket J's were enough to take down Robert Sciammarella. Robert, who lives in Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, had earlier lost a huge hand to Jeffrey Cohen when his AK could not improve and Jeffrey's A9 prevailed with a 9 on the flop. Robert took 5th place and $18,185.
George Billias of nearby East Lyme, CT, took 4th place when his A10 lost to David's AQ. George had been the chip leader but his AJ was second best to Jeffrey's KQ after a 108K flop. He stayed alive by catching a flush against Jeffrey's straight but in the end he could not recover and George collected $27,277.
Firas Haddad put up a spirited effort to finish in 3rd position. He built a sizable chip position but met his match versus Jeffrey who had AQ to his K10 for a large swing. His 2's ultimately lost to Jeffrey's 6's and Firas would return to Poughkeepsie, NY with $36,369. Jeffrey Cohen and David Zeitlin began their heads up play with Jeffrey having 3 to 2 chip advantage.
David, however, slowly but surely ate into Jeffrey's stack and was the champion when he caught a 5 on the river to pair his A5 to top Jeffrey's A8. Jeffrey had 2nd place money to take back to Rye, NH and David was the $600 No- Limit Champion for 2006!
