€1 million plus Irish Poker Open sees old enemies and young guns battle it out for one of pokers most prestigious titles
Europe’s oldest poker tournament reaches its climax tonight with an epic battle between the Irish and English.
The event, broadcast live around Europe on Sky Sports 2 at 9.30pm on Monday 17 April (Easter Monday) sees the field evenly represented between the ‘auld enemies’ as a host of unknowns challenge for the crown of Irish Champion.
The field was delicately poised with one shortstack (Paul Daly) fighting for his life and five others equally likely to push for the title promising a no holds barred, all action climax to Ireland’s largest ever poker tournament.
The chip counts were:
872,000 chips Vincent Millann (Ireland)
513,000 chips Conor Smith (Ireland)
407,000 chips Jon Wong (England)
836,500 chips Ian Woodley (England)
84,000 chips Paul Daly (yes he is very shortstacked!)
893,000 chips Brendan Ruane (Ireland)
The Irish Poker Open is the richest sporting event in Ireland this year. The total prize pool was boosted to €1,068,000 when sponsor Paddy Power Poker added €51,000.
