USC Senior Robert Ozeran Tackled Final Table Shootout
Event #9 No Limit Hold'em Shootout attracted 236 players each trying to win their first table draw. Some tables were tougher than others as the first table to finish down to one occurred before 6pm and the last table to finish was in Level 10 @ $800/$1,600 blinds after 10pm. Robert Ozeran, a former high school football player, found poker to be his outlet for his hyper-competitive drive once he entered college and was no longer on the gridiron.
The second tournament of the shootout began with three tables where each player starts with $2,000 in chips and the blinds reset back to Level #1 @ $25/$25. Play was slow at first but after midnight we were down to our last ten final table
players.
The first elimination of the final table occurred on hand #32. Arin Youssefian, a real estate contractor, re-raised all-in preflop against Dustin West, a poker dealer from Riverside. Arin had pocket Jacks and Dustin held AKo. The flop was all Dustin showing A-K-4. The turn 6 and river 4 left each player with two pair. Dustin West has the nut two pair and eliminates Arin in 10th place for an $885 share of the prize pool.
The next elimination was in hand #47 where Graham Duke, a pro player from Vancouver, BC, pushed all-in from the button and was called by the small blind Soo Pai. Duke had QJo and Pai had AKo. The flop of J-Q-5 gave the lead to Duke, and the turn 7 helped no one. It was the river 10 that gave Soo Pai the Broadway straight, and Graham Duke, after a very successful 2006 WSOP, was eliminated in 9th place earning $1,060.
It was hand #60 where Steve Akca made a button raise and Peter Nguyen, the small blind, instantly re-raised all-in. Steve called and revealed Ad-10d against Peter's dominating AKo. The flop was 7d-9c-3d, providing nine additional diamond outs for Steve. The turn 8h and river 5s disappointed Steve, and he finished in 8th place for $1,415.
Just three hands later, Tung Pham raised all-in for his last $725 and was called in two spots. The board was checked down all the way resulting in a 10-9-A-7-3. Robert Ozeran, a student at USC and entrepreneur, showed pocket 4's and that was good enough to beat Pham's KJo. Tung Pham lands in 7th place and increased his bankroll by $1,770.
This next hand will be difficult for those of us who like to play big pots with KK. Peter Nguyen, self-proclaimed Hustler from Tustin, CA, pushed all-in with pocket Kings. He is called by chipleader Robert Ozeran, in the big blind with Ah-8h. The flop hit Ozeran with an A-T-9 and Peter needs to hit a 2-outer. The turn and river (4d-5h) are bricks for Peter and he heads to the tournament stand to collect $2,480 in 6th place.
David Chase, refusing a chip count, re-raised all-in against Tamer Elsayed, a Ph.D. candidate from Cal Tech, and got the call. Chase had the lead showing pocket 9's and Tamer showed Kd-Jd. The board keeps Chase from having to chase with a Q-8-4-A. The river was the 10 to make Tamer the runner-runner straight. David Chase, a mortgage lender from Alameda, CA finishes in 5th place and earned $3,185. David said he loves the pain from refusing deals and busting out shortly after. Don't feel bad for Mr. Chase, he has a lot going on outside of poker because he is, after all, the President of the Vanilla Ice fan club. Really.
This left four players who asked for a chip count calculation. The numbers came back and each player agrees on the split of the remaining $50K+ of the prize pool. Robert Ozeran, the chipleader entering the final table, ends the tournament with the chip lead and is declared the winner.

Robert Ozeran, a Beverly Hills native, brought to the final table the following: a lot of chips and a lot of confidence. Add some skill, luck, and 52 playing cards to the mix and Robert will produce a WIN. Ultra-competitive Robert Ozeran has been playing serious poker for two years. He is self-taught and was playing poker for as long as he can remember. He is a senior at USC. Robert loves strategy games including Chess, Gin Rummy, and Poker. He primarily plays cash games (5/10 NLHE). He just played in the 2006 WSOP Main Event where he got sucked out on by Chris "Jesus" Ferguson. Robert flopped two pair against Jesus' KK. All the money went in post flop and Chris hit his 2-outer on the river. Robert said the camera crews were there, and he's hoping it makes the ESPN edited broadcast. Robert would like to dedicate this win to his golden retriever, Bailey. Robert has recently become single now that his ex-girlfriend dumped him. So ladies, make your move now, not because he's $27,580 richer but because. Well I guess that's a good enough reason. |
