Tournament Report

'Ladies' Stud' is not a contradiction in terms. The women who participate in today's event are as capable as any man. There are differences between female poker players and male poker players. Ladies usually smell better and don't throw the cards as far. But they want it just as bad as men do.

These ladies aren't virgin players. The ease with which they fondle chips and tease the cards reveal their experience. These women don't hesitate to use affirmative action to get the pot. When they think they have the best hand they march for justice, betting andraising all the way.

When the Ladies' event begins there's one long-haired blonde with a lot of chips — dealer Ed Smith. His ‘do' out does the dames. Elaine Roberts, a lefthanded Jayhawker from Lawrence KS, is on a mission. She's here for the cash.

Elaine went to the WPT Boot Camp. She said she thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a lot. Not quite enough apparently because she didn't make the money… this time. But neither did professional player Kathy Liebert.

Women not only play poker at the Cherokee Casino, they work here too! Trish Gregory and Linda Gibbs do a heck of job in the poker kiosk. They handle money, chips and flatter the press. They should get a raise! Judith Osborne got kissed but didn't get cashed. She was one place out of the money, coming in 6th in an event that paid 5 places.

The Ladies' Champ tonight was Shelly Fritz. She came to the Final Table with the most chips and never looked back. She had what it takes and she knew how to use it.

Speaking of bad-beats! Wendy Jenkins was a onewoman chip wrecking crew in the No-Limit main event. Throughout the day she knockknocked the chips out of players, sending many out the door talking to themselves. But poker is a mean game. It can make you cry or wonder why?

With 19 players left, one away from the money, Wendy picked-up pocket-Kings. She went heads-up against a Big Dog with a husky pair of Aces. The flop came A, K, ?, ?, ?. Wendy was blown away.
