Attendance Records Fall at "Oklahoma State Championship of Poker"
Tulsa, OK - The second event on day two of the "Oklahoma State Championship of Poker", Feb. 1 – 13, at the Cherokee Casino set a new in-house record with 636 participants and $178,080 in prize money.
When the field was reduced to 16 remaining players, they all agreed to an equal split of the prize money. Each player received $9,372. The 1st Place championship ring for this event was presented to Gerald Hughes, of Neosho MO, the chip leader when the action stopped.
J. L. Hamrick, of Tulsa, had the exact same amount of chips as Hughes. Hamrick agreed to accept 2nd Place and the winner's seat in the final State Championship event at the end of the tournament. In this last event, all previous event winners compete for $25,000.
"This is a great tournament!" exclaimed Hughes, proudly displaying his beautiful winner’s ring, "The Cherokee Casino really knows how to do it," he added. Hamrick agreed, "They treat poker players as well, if not better, than any casino in America."
According to Poker Manager Jimmy Sims, this year's Oklahoma Championship of Poker participation is breaking all previous records. "Our team has worked hard to make the Cherokee a national poker power," he said, "and I think we’re getting there."
