Tournament Report
| The first event of the 2007 Foxwoods Poker Classic started with a bang as 1130 players put up $300 each to
enter the No-Limit Hold'em Modified Shoot-out and compete for a prize pool of $286,926! First day sessions were held
at 10 am and 1 pm and the top three players on each single table advanced to the 4 pm Finals. A total of 339 winners
returned at 4 pm and by the midnight curfew there were 39 players remaining. Play was resumed at Noon on Tuesday
and it wasn't until 5:30 pm before the final table was underway. Three hours later, Peter MacLellan of Wilmington, MA,
was declared the winner of the Championship Trophy, commemorative leather jacket and $77,901!
The final table began with the blinds at $5K/$10K and Dave Deschenes of Montreal, Canada, quickly saw his
stack depleted when he called Andrew Powell's all-in with pocket 4's. Andrew had AK and an A on the turn doubled
him up. Dave went all-in for $160K with AK but he found himself with 10th place money of $4,447 when he could not
pair and Cory Carroll's pocket 6's were a winner. Local player Anthony Costa of Coventry, RI, was all-in with his last
$20K with Cory and Mike Baranowski as callers. There was no further betting and when Cory turned over A7 (there was
an A on the flop) both Mike and Anthony mucked; Anthony took home 9th place money of $5,739.
With the blinds now at $6K/$12K, Chris Roberts decided to make a stand with AJ. Unfortunately, Cory had
AQ and the 845K10 did not help Chris and he would return home to Franklin, MA, with $7,173 for 8th place. Andrew
Powell of Hartford, CT, bet $50K with QJ after a Q25 flop. Chris Griffen went all-in with pocket K's; Andrew took his
time before deciding to call all-in. A 9 on the turn and a 6 on the river left Andrew in 7th position for $8,608. Farhad
Sinaei of nearby New Britain, CT, improved his position as the final table short stack by taking 6th place. He was all-in
for $90K with pocket K's; Chris Griffen had AQ and an A on the flop with a Q on the turn left Farhad with $10,042 to
soothe his wounds.
Cory Carroll of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, was the chip leader with 5 players remaining. His position was
quickly eroded when Peter MacLellan hit the river flush with an all-in. The next hand, Cory was all-in with A8 for his
last $30K but again Peter was the winner and Cory took 5th place and $12,912. The 4th place winner was Michael
Baranowski of Waterbury, CT. Michael had AQ for his final all-in but Chris MacNeil had pocket 4's and, with no help
from the board, Michael would take home $15,781. Chris Griffen had started the final table as the chip leader and, with 3
remaining, was right in contention. But once again Peter hit the cards when needed as he paired a 7 on the river to send
Chris home to Malden, MA, with 3rd place money of $22,954.
Chris MacNeil of Peabody, MA, found himself at a distinct disadvantage entering heads-up play. Peter took a
series of hands and when Chris finally paired a 10, he went all-in. Peter, however, again had the answer as he paired a K
to leave Chris in 2nd place with $40,169 to ease the pain of defeat! Peter was the Champion for 2007!
The 2007 Foxwoods Poker Classic is off to a fantastic start!!
