Tournament Report

TITLE GOES TO JIM CAISSIE! TOP SPOT PAYS $97,769!

A total of 599 entrants squared off in the 2007 Foxwoods Poker Classic $600 No-Limit Hold'em Modified Shootout vying for a prize pool of $309,886!

First day sessions were held on Saturday at 10 am and 1 pm and the top three players on each single table advanced to the 4 pm Finals. A total of 204 winners returned at 4 pm and by the midnight curfew there were 34 players remaining. Play was resumed at Noon on Sunday and by 4:30 pm the final table was underway. Three hours later, Jim Caissie of North Attleboro, MA, was declared the winner of the Championship Trophy, commemorative jacket and $97,769!

Jamie Tipping of Chestnut Hill, MA, was the short stack at the table and he was the first to go all-in. He survived one with pocket A's, but pocket Q's lost when Billy Botchis flopped a set of 8's. Jamie was the 10th place winner of $4,804. Will 'The Thrill' Failla of Smithtown, NY, with AK, called Horace York's all-in and lost a good chunk of his stack when Horace paired a deuce on the flop. Will was all-in shortly thereafter with 8's but Horace had 9's and Will collected $6,197 for 9th place.

It would take an hour and a half of play before Steve Cotter exited the table. Steve survived a couple of all-ins before moving in with pocket 9's. Eric Rivkin had AQ and, with an AQ on the flop, Steve would return home to Killingly, CT, with $7,747 for 8th.

Joe Ready of Boston, MA, decided to move all-in with AJ suited; Jim Caissie called with AK suited. Unfortunately for Joe, Jim flopped a flush and Joe would be a winner of $9,297 for 7th place.

The next hand saw Mike Pizzarella of Worcester, MA, all-in with his last 20K. Shortly after the final table began, Mike was involved with a hand which extended his stay. He was all-in with A9 and Eric called with A10; an A103 flop gave Eric two pair but running treys let Mike chop the pot to keep him in the game. Mike had 6's with his final all-in but Jim Caissie had AK; a K on the flop left Mike with $10,846 for 6th.

Billy Botchis of nearby Niantic, CT, was the short stack with 5 players remaining. He made his last stand with pocket 5's but Jim paired a J on the flop and Billy was the 5th place winner of $13,945.

The 4th position was taken by Horace York of Limington, ME. Horace was all-in numerous times before finally pushing in his last 135K with A2. Unfortunately, his caller, Steve Laetano, had A10 and Horace was the recipient of $18,593. Third position belonged to Eric Rivkin. Eric, a resident of Cliffside Park, NJ, was the second shortest stack at the beginning of the final table but was able to improve his position greatly. After a J102 flop, Eric pushed all-in with AJ; Jim called immediately and turned over pocket J's to give Eric $27,890 for his efforts.

Heads-up play commenced with Jim Caissie holding a 6 to 4 chip advantage over Steve Laetano who hails from New Britain, CT. Jim slowly ate into Steve's stack until Steve decided the time was right with A9. He was ahead of Jim, who had A5, until a 5 appeared on the flop. Steve could soothe the loss with 2nd place money of $49,582. While our Champion, Jim Caissie, was the winner of $97,769!
