$169,917 TO "GIGABET" DICKEN FOR FIRST PLACE!
The $3000 No-Limit Hold'em Championship of the 2007 Foxwoods Poker Classic
was captured by Darrell "Gigabet" Dicken as he overcame the challenge
of 167 other competitors. Darrell, who hails from Waterloo, IA, took home the
Championship trophy, commemorative jacket and the top prize of $169,917!
The final table began a little after noon on Wednesday and the first to depart
was John Racener of Port Richey, FL. John had pocket 9's and Todd Lewis
called with AK. Two A's on the flop gave Todd a set and John was heading
home with $9,169 for 10th place.
Chuck Furey, a resident of Bridgewater, NJ, found himself pushing all-in with
Q9; Josh Herman called with A9. The flop was QQ10 and Chuck felt hopeful. But
Josh had the spade A and with two spades on the flop and two more on the turn
and river, relegated Chuck to 9th place good for $10,314.
Todd had pocket A's when he called Matt Szymaszek's all-in. Matt
had pocket Q's and, with no help from the board, Matt would return home
to Charlestown, MA, with an 8th place finish and $11,461.
Matt Casterella, who finished 2nd in the 2005 NEPC Main Event and won the $5000
event at the recent Winter Poker Open, was able to take 7th position. With K9
and a K108 flop, he was ahead of Darrell "Gigabet" Dicken who had
J10. However, a 10 on the turn would leave Matt, a resident of White Plains,
NY, with $13,753 for his efforts.
Jeff Hurley of Westwood, MA, went all-in with his last 30K. His K6 was ahead
of Todd's J8 until an 8 came on the river. Jeff was a winner of $18,336
for 6th place.
It was shortly thereafter, that Matt Glantz was all-in with 87 after a 692
flop. He could not catch the straight to top Darrell's A8 and Matt, the
Lafayette Hill, PA, resident, would have $22,922 for 5th.
Canadian Josh Herman moved from the 4th shortest stack to 4th place. He bet
his last 140K with AJ and Todd had AK; a K on the flop ended Josh's day.
Josh took $29,797 home to Richmond Hill, Ont.
Three players remained and "Gigabet" Dicken was the chip leader by
a wide margin. The short stack was Howard Crash of Weston, CT. Howard was the
story of the final table as he came from the short stack to finish 3rd. The
first hand of the final table set the tone for the day as Howard doubled up
from 26K. He survived several all-ins until his K10 could not catch up to Darrell's
A7. Howard was the winner of $46,988.
Todd Lewis of New York City, NY, was at a severe chip deficit entering heads
up action. He went all-in with A8 after a 389 flop and "Gigabet" called
with 109. Todd got no help from the turn and river and he had $87,100 for his
day's work.
