Angie Park Enters and Wins Her First Limit Hold'em Tournament

The Bicycle Casino is hosting the 2007 Winnin ‘O' the Green series. This third event, a $300 +$40 Limit Hold'em tournament, landed 149 entries and created a prize pool of $44,700. The 10-handed final table was set at 11:30pm in the middle of Level 10 with blinds of 500-1000.

Final table play was initially cautious but our first elimination came on hand #27. Hung Giang found himself all-in with 8-10 offsuit against Bret Murphy's pocket 7's. With a board of A-2-J-Q-3, Bret's 7's held up and Hung Giang was eliminated in 10th place for $670.

After four more hands, Walter Smiley was all-in against Timothy Joseph. Walter's A-K was in good shape against Timothy's Q-10…until the turn. The board was 5-8-J-Q-2. Timothy's pair of Queens takes it. Walter Smiley finished in 9th place and received $780.

On hand #39, Ulises'Taxi' Molina was all-in with A-10 against Dave Liao's dominating A-K. The flop was 5-Q-7. The turn was a King and Dave extends his lead although Taxi picked up a straight draw. The river 10 sealed Taxi's fate and he finished in 8th place and earned $895.

An interesting hand played out between Andy Wang and Ben Mack. Andy picked up pocket Aces and got called preflop by Ben's A-9. The flop was 10-9-8. The betting continued to the river as the turn deuce and river 9 gave Ben the suck out of the night with trip 9's cracking Andy's aces. Andy was not out but was very short stacked.

On hand #69, there was three-way action to the flop with Bret Murphy all-in with Qh-9h. Both of Bret's opponents bet it through to the river and then each show their pocket Kings. Timothy Joseph had the red Kings and Ben Mack the black Kings. The Kings chop the pot and Bret Murphy finished in 7th place and took $1,115 of the prize pool.

Just 5 hands later, short stacked Andy Wang was all-in with a K-3 on the button. He was called by Timothy Joseph's Ac-8c. The board was A-9-3-Q-2 and Andy could not overcome Timothy's pair of Aces. Andy Wang was eliminated in 6th place and received $1,565.

On hand #80 at this final table, Ben Mack had put Parth'Spiderman' Data all-in on the river. Spiderman had a dominating K-7 going into the flop against Ben's K-2 but the board produced a couple of deuces (2c-Js-2d-10d-6h) and Spiderman, a one-time chip leader at the final table, was eliminated in 5th place and earned $2,010.

Four-handed play commenced and there wasn't a hand that continued past the flop for 23 consecutive hands. On hand #106, Dave Liao woke up to pocket Kings in the small blind against Ben Mack's Qc-8c on the button. Ben had just lost a big pot and had his last chips in this pot. The board was 9-7-4-6-A. Ben picked up the open-ended straight draw on the turn but the Ace on the river did not complete his draw. Ben Mack finished in 4th place and took his $2,680 share of the prize pool.

Three-handed play was more of the same; few flops and lots of raises with no-calls. Some talk of a chip count occurred but an objection was always out there before any calculations could be made. The final hand of the match came on #131. Dave Liao had a few chips left after losing a big pot several hands ago. Dave was all-in blind and showed a 5h-2d. Angie Park called with a Kc-2c. The board was 8-7-5-K-A. Dave took the lead on the flop but the turn paired Angie's King and she took down the pot. Dave finished in 3rd place and earned $4.245.

This last hand gave Angie a slight chip lead over Timothy Joseph. Discussion on a deal stopped the clock and eventually the two arrived on a settlement. The tournament completed and Angie Park was declared the winner. Timothy Joseph finished in the runner-up position.

BIOGRAPHY

Angie Park, a Loan Agent, claimed this was her first Limit Hold'em tournament she has ever played. I believe her but she played like a veteran. Angie has been playing poker for 7 years and was taught by her brothers.

Most of her tournament experience came through the internet and she posted 3 large tournament wins there. She restricts her No Limit Hold'em play to tournaments only. Her cash game play is always Limit Hold'em and typically is playing $25/50. Angie said with 5 tables to go she had 400 chips and slowed built them up to 54,000 by the time she entered the final table. She kept her lead throughout the entire final table and racked up her first Limit Hold'em win.
