Tournament Report
Peppermill 'Spring Poker Tournament' Shines
Reno, NV - The Peppermill 'Spring Poker Tournament' continued to attract good crowds as the heavy snow storm that blanketed the city for two days moved on.
'According to room reservations and head counts, we estimate late winter storm cost as much as 40% of the participation we were expecting,' Poker Manager Mike Gainey reported, 'Nevertheless, the tournament has been a success.'
Tuesday's 12noon No-Limit Hold'em contest attracted 125 players. Ten hours later, Mike Nienhouse, of Sparks, outlasted Michael 'Yosh' Yoshihara, of Reno, to claim 1st Place and $8,645. Yoshihara received $4,940 for second.
The 7pm event, the $120 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. competition [Hold'em, Omaha, Razz, Stud, Eight-or-better], the first ever held in Reno, exceeded everyone's expectations, drawing 144 participants. Considered a real test of a player's knowledge and skills, it was won by Debbie Burkhead, Las Vegas Advertising Manager for POKER PLAYER, a national bi-weekly publication.
'It's exciting to win. I'm especially pleased it was this event and here at the Peppermill. It's a major tournament and one of my favorite,' Burkhead said. The winner thought her Stud skills and experience really helped.
The 'Spring Poker Tournament' continues through March 4. Another 17-day, tournament has been announced for March. Buy-ins to all events will be $120 with no add-ons or re-buys.
