Diana Korkis Smashes the Competition
After a short speech from Annie Duke, The ladies took their seats and began the battle on the felt. Karina Jett got in on the action but made very little headway before getting knocked out. Marcia Waggoner was much in the same as she couldn't get any traction. London Gallagher would go as far as 11th, which was short of her past success. This didn't mean we wouldn't see some of the great poker players on the final table.
The bubble was busted 5 hours into the tournament and the remaining 18 players were all in the money.
The final table would prove to be full of excitement. On the button pre-flop, Teresa Gallagher pushed all-in for her remaining 14,000 and got the call from our chipleader, Diana Korkis who had K-Q. That hand was dominated by Teresa's A-K, but the flop made it switch when the K-Q-6. The turn was a 2 and the river was a 2. Teresa was stunned but out. Teresa Gallagher finished 10th earning $640.
Katrina Lim was on the BB and had most of her chips in when Darlene Springman made it 8k to go. Katrina tosses her remaining chips in and shows a J-6 to Darlene's A-K. The flop was 10-6-4 giving Katrina some hope. The turn was a 7, but the flop was a K and that did it for Katrina Lim who finished 9th earning $750.
8th place went to Norma Bramlett when she moved all-in for the last 5,500 against the pocket 2's of Suzanne Gray. The board bricked out for Norma and Norma Bramlett finished 8th earning $855.
Suzanne was all-in on the blinds and didn't turn her hand up when she saw the pair of A's that Diana Korkis turned. Suzanne Gray finished 7th earning $1,070.
With her last 4,600, Andrea Henry put it all-in on the BB against Diana Korkis who called with a K-10 versus Andrea's A-2. The flop was K-J-4 and now Andrea needed an ace. The turn was another K and that did it for Andrea Henry who finished 6th earning $1,495.
Libby Ovelette made it 5k to go and the action folded around to Stacey Harris who moved all-in. Libby called and we had a race on our hands. Libby had A-7 Stacey had 5-5 The flop came 2-10-8, the turn was a crushing 7, and the river was a 3. Stacey Harris finished the day in 5th earning $1,920.
Annabelle Najera moved all-in in the sb and got called by Diana Korkis who had limped in on the button. Diana had the A-7 and Najera held pocket J's. The flop came 2-6-A and Najera needed a J to survive. The turn was a 5 and Najera was down to one card which came a 3. Annabelle Najera finished 4th earning $2,560.
Darlene Springman felt like her A-5 was good so she moved all-in to protect her hand. Libby Ovelette made the call with Q-10 and it was time to see the flop. The first three read J-2-2, the turn was a 7 and the river also was a 7. Libby Ovelette was done for the night in 3rd place earning $4,060.
With the button in front of her, Darlene Springman made it 12k to go and Diana Korkis flat called. The flop was J - 10 - 3. Diana announced, "all-in." and Darlene insta-called and turned up her K-10 for middle pair and Diana turned the 2 - 5 for the flush draw. The turn was the 5 and the river was the nail in the coffin, 3. Diana Korkis is our Ladies Event Champion! she earned $17,087.
Biography
Diane Korkis has been playing poker for a few short years. She was taught how to play by her brother Gaby, who would put her in the $1-$2 live games and sweat her as she played. Soon after learning, she got into a tournament and won! From then on, she knew she was able to handle her own in the poker games. She is an administrative associate and is not married.
