Tournament Report
|
Last nights No Limit Hold'em saw excitement from the beginning. The excitement began with three players all-in preflop and the hands were exposed: pocket Q's, pocket K's and pocket A's. The flop was 10-8-Q, the turn was a K, and the river was an A! The tournament would end in the same exciting fashion.
The bubble was deflated 7 hours into the tournament. The final 45 players were gonna get an extra payday.
Once the final table was formed, Alice Talbot stole a few blinds and this made Colin Gordon the shortstack. Colin made his move in middle position all-in and Alice Talbot insta-called. Colin announced,"I bet $1,000 that she's got the best hand!" and turned over the 2-3. The flop was scary for Alice when the 4-5-10 came out giving Colin the straight draw AND taking away a few of Alice's outs. The turn was a K and this sent the percentages back in Alice's favor. The river 4 paired the board and sent Colin Gordon packing in 10th place earning $2,655.
A massive hand took place. Thu Nguyen made a raise in middle position and got re-raised by Christian Hollmann who went all-in. The action folded around to Peter Nguyen who made the call for all of his chips and the race was on. Too bad for Peter and Christian that Thu held the pocket rocket's! Peter held the K-9 and Christian held A-K and the flop came out Q-2-2. The turn was a Q and the river was a 10. Peter Nguyen finished 9th earning $3,195 and Christian Hollmann finished 8th earning $4,260.
Jesus Delgadillo doubled through Raoul Encinas with an A-2 that flopped 2 pair. Jesus was at 37k after being as short as 7k.On the next hand Raoul Encinas moved all-in and got the insta-call from Thu Nguyen who had the A-10 and Raoul held the A-2. The flop was 10-J-8, the turn was a 5, and the river was a 7. Raoul Encinas finished 7th earning $5,330.
Under the gun, Alice Talbot raised to 25k and it folded around to the big blind, Jesus Delgadillo who pushed all-in for his last 30k. Alice immediately called him with pocket 9's versus the A-8 of Jesus. The flop was a big nail in the coffin for Jesus when the 4-9-7 came. The turn was a ray of hope for Jesus with the 10, giving him a straight draw. The 7 spelled the end for Jesus Delgadillo who finished 6th earning $6,395.
The action was folded around to Joe Schulman who went all-in and was insta-called by Bob Kirkery who had him covered. Bob Kirkery had the pocket 10's and Joe held the K-Q. The flop was 2-K-7, which was enough to put Bob in the lead. The turn left 2 outs to Joe when another K came. The river was too much for joe when he saw another 7. Joe Schulman finished 4th earning $10,655.
The action folded around to JJ who made it 50k to go in the small blind. Alice Talbot decided to make her move and she re-raised it up 70k more and was all-in. JJ now went into the tank for at least 4 minutes before one of the players put him on the clock. While he was thinking, Alice turned completely around and looked the other way as if she were uncomfortable. JJ got down to the last 10 seconds and announced, "Let me see your hand. I call," and turned over his A-9. Alice turned up pocket 10's and the board was drawn up. The flop was 7-Q-A. The turn was a K and the river was the 6. Alice Talbot finished 5th earning $8,525.
The 3 remaining players would be tossing chips back and forth for the next hour. Finally, Bob Kirkery called from the small blind and Thu Nguyen made a raise to 55k. Bob Kirkery said, "Let's dance!" and he pushed in his stack. Thu called and the two turned over their cards. Bob held A-4 and Thu had pocket Q's. The flop was 2-5-10. The turn was the J and the river was the 8 and B ob Kirkery two stepped out of his chair and into 3rd place earning $18,115.
JJ has been raising almost every hand in the heads up play and this hand was no different. Mostafa (JJ) made it 60k to go and Thu moved all-in and Mostafa insta-called showing A-K versus the pocket J's of Thu. The flop came up blank for Mostafa when the 9-Q-6 came out. The crowd gathered closer to the table to see the next card drop. The K sent everyone in a frenzy as Mostafa made his hand and was well ahead. But, Thu could catch a J or a 10 to make a straigt and really do some damage to Mostafa's stack. Half of the crowd went numb when the 4 landed and sealed the deal for Mostafa Jamasbi who is our Champion and earned a $10,000 Main Event seat and $74,585.
Biography
Mostafa Jamasbi is no stranger to victory. The 60 year old computer consultant has taken down 2 other major victories at The Commerce Casino in the past year. He says those are great, but nothing compares to his lovely wife and 2 kids. He says he hopes to repeat his performance from last night in the Main Event here at The Legends. Mostafa resides right here in Los Angeles.
