Tournament Report
Mike Dung Dominates!
A $545 No Limit Hold'em event always brings out a big crowd, and Saturday's was no exception. This event brought 462 players to the field, including Men 'The Master' Nguyen, Bryan Devonshire, Nam Le, Chris 'The Armenian Express' Grigorian, and Amir Vahedi. These players were tough, but none of them would fare as well as Allen Kessler, who would finish the night in 12th place. The field whittled away slowly, but all of the players put up a good fight to the end.
The bubble burst seven hours into the tournament, which meant that 45 players were very happy to be in the money.
Six hands into the final table, Leroy Le was all-in and found protection from Mike Dung, who re-raised another 35k. We went into the flop heads-up, as Leroy turned up pocket tens versus the pocket jacks of Mike. The flop was 7-8-5, no help to either player. The turn was an 8, and the river was a 4. Leroy Le finished in 10th place, earning $2,675.
Following a pre-flop raise from Mike Dung, Leopoldo Araneta moved his last 40k in the middle. Mike eventually made the call, sending his Q-J into battle against the A-6 of Leopoldo. Leopoldo ran into trouble on a flop of Q-9-3. Leopoldo wouldn't find help on the turn, either, as a 4 peeled off the deck. The 5 on the river sealed the deal, and Leopoldo Araneta finished 9th earning $3,220.
Sirous Baghchehsaraie moved all-in pre-flop for his remaining 25k, found a call in both Dennis Beres and Steve Yoon. Steve moved all-in for 46k on a flop of 2-K-2, and Dennis Beres insta-called. Steve had the A-K, Dennis had pocket 8's, and Sirous had the A-Q. The turn was a 6, the river was the overkill K, and Steve Yoon raked in over 160k. Sirous Baghchehsaraie finished 8th earning $4,280.
Right after we had a blackout in the casino, Wenceslao Arceo moved his stack of 25k into the middle and got the call from Paul Kim. Paul had the dominating A-K versus the K-Q of Arceo, and we were off to the flop. The shared K came on a flop of K-9-10. The turn was a 2, meaning Arceo would have to catch lucky on the river to stay alive. Alas, that card never came, as a 6 fell on the river to give Kim the winning hand. Wenceslao Arceo finished 7th earning $5,350.
The blinds had been eating away at David Chase's stack since the final table was formed. Finally, he moved all-in and the action folded around to Mike Wong, who made the call. They turned up their hands and David's A-5 had a slight lead over Wong's K-J. The flop was A-Q-7, giving David the top pair, but Wong had a straight draw. The case 10 fell on the turn, just what Wong needed to fill his straight. That did it for David Chase, who finished in 6th place, earning $6,420.
Just a few short minutes after David was sent packing, Dennis Beres made a raise to 30k and Denny Lee decided to move all-in. Dennis wasted no time in calling with his A-10, no doubt pleased to see the K-J Lee turned up. The flop was a monstrous K-Q-J giving both players great hands. Lee picked up two pair and could hit any K or J to fill up and move well in front of Beres' flopped Broadway. The turn was an 8, and the river was a 5, and Denny Lee was sent to the rail in 5th place, earning $8,560.
Dennis Beres was on the button and made a raise to 50k. Paul Kim moved all-in and got the call from Dennis who had pocket 6's versus the A-K of Paul. The flop was 4-6-3, giving Dennis the set. The turn was the A and the river was the Q, leaving Paul Kim with 90k.
Two hands later, Paul Kim moved all-in on the button and Dennis made the call. Dennis had the inferior 10d 2c and Paul Kim had pocket 10's. The flop was Ad-Jc-9d, and the turn was the 5d. This gave an extra set of outs for Dennis, who only needed a diamond to win. The river was the Kd and Dennis sent Paul Kim home in fourth earning $10,705.
Action for the final three was so fast and furious it was hard to keep up with! In the end, Steve Yoon would finish in third place, earning $18.195, leaving Mike Dung and Dennis Beres heads-up for all the marbles.
Mike Dung pulled ahead and took it down! In an exciting match-up, Mike Dung bested a field of 462 players to take first place and $74,925. Dennis Beres finished in second place, earning $37,460.
