Tournament Report
Mike Baxter takes down the victory!
The $2,040 No Limit Hold'em tournament was filled with excitement from beginning to end. One of the most dangerous players in the field, David 'The Dragon' Pham went far in the tournament, but his dangerous play caught up to him just short of the money. 'Miami' John Cernuto also came to claim the prize, but was halted early in the first day. Once we got to the money at the end of the first night, the remaining 18 players came back for the second day to claim their share of the prize pool.
The way in which we made the final table was quite a crazy situation. On the first table there was a 3 way all-in fest with Shannon Shorr and 2 other players, when all of a sudden there is an all-in on the other table. So, we saw a total of 3 players all-in with 2 of them on one table. The hands in that all-in were pocket the A's of Michael Pesek, against the pocket 8's of Shannon, against the A-Qo of George Lasko. The board read 2-4-Q-5-6 and Michael scoops in a big pot, cripples Shannon and knocks out George Lasko in 11th.
The other hand that was played out simultaneously was the one that knocked out Eugene Todd. On the turn of 6-Q-3-9, Eugene fired out a bet and got raised by his opponent who was putting Eugene all-in. Eugene called and we saw the hands with Eugene way behind with his 9-8 versus the pocket 3's of his opponent. The river was a 4 and Eugene was sent packing in 10th.
The final table was formed after 2 hours of play on the second night and the action picked up then.
Shannon Shorr was in middle position and made the raise to 6,400 total. Mike Baxter flat called and the action folded over to Michael Pesek who moved all-in. Shannon went in the tank for a minute before calling the all-in bet and Baxter folded. Michael turned pocket 10's and Shannon looked good to double through with his pocket J's. The flop was a monstrous 10-3-Kr, giving Michael the upper hand. The turn was an 8, and the river card was a 7. Shannon fought hard to get to the final table tonight, but was our first final table casualty finishing in 9th earning $5,630.
On a flop of K-8-4, Mike Baxter lead out with a 30k bet and the action was over to Michael Pesek. Michael had already raised pre-flop and then took control again by moving all-in. Mike insta-called and turned over the K-8 and Michael was sick to see that his pocket A's were dominated. The turn was a 5 and the river came a 9. Michael Pesek finished his day in 8th earning $6,435.
The remaining players decided on a deal and our champion is Mike Baxter!
