Tournament Report
Mark Sandness Wins HPT at Northern Lights Casino
Walker, MN- Mark Sandness, of Moorhead, Minnesota, was the champion of the no-limit hold ‘em contest Sunday, September 16th, during the Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) Tournament at Northern Lights Casino. Mark collected $53,1999 and a $3,000 seat to the HPT Championship Open Tournament.
From September 12-15, hundreds of players came to fish in the prize pool worth $192,998 and snag themselves a seat in the HPT Championship Open Tournament held December 1-10th at the Majestic Star in Gary, Indiana.
Mark Sandness came to the final table as a big stack. He passed up a few early pots then caught a hand that made him chip leader. Mark went on to claim it all with a K-8 against opponent Larry Barbetta's A-4. 'I guess it worked out,' a tired Mark smiles. 'It was really a grind but it was fun.'
This was the second trip the HPT has taken to Northern Lights Casino who hosted the first HPT event in June 2005. 'We had a great time with all of the players,' commented Rob Premo, Northern Lights Vice President of Table Games. 'This was an exciting event and it brought in a lot of action.'
Next stop for the HPT is at the Golden Gates Casino, in Colorado. There are five more events left on the 2007 schedule including the HPT Championship. 'I think we can safely predict a record prize pool at the Majestic to finish off the year,' said HPT co-founder Todd Anderson.
