Tournament Report

The final was a mere six hands old when Stuart Nash and Albert Sapiano crossed swords for the first elimination. The short-stacked Sapiano, holding 9h9c, raised 3,100, only to be met with an 8,300 all-in from Nash who held AhKh. When the final board read Ad 3c 6c 4d Qd Sapiano got no help and was headed out the door for an early night. Albert takes home £760 for his hard work.

It was another hour and a half of play before the next player fell. Nash, sitting on pocket eights 8c 8s, raised 2,900 pre-flop; Dave Colclough hit back with a 12,000 re-raise on the back of his Qd Ks. Nash responded by pushing all his chips into the middle, only for Colcough to call. The flop (7s Ah Jh) was a clean bill of health for Nash however; the turn and river came down Kc Qc sending Nash crashing out in fifth place. 5th Place took home £940.

Next up it was the turn of Jason De Freitas and Hugh Mullally to clash. Mullally held AdKh, while De Freitas had AhAs. With the board reading Js6hTc3s8c offering no help for either player, Mullally went to the wall for fourth and £1500.

With three players left round the table, it was De Freitas holding the lions share of the chips, with Colclough not too far behind and Paul Ephremsen, who'd managed to stay out of trouble until this point, still looking at a low stack.

Eighteen hands later, Ephremsen bit the bullet when he put his pocket fives (5c 5h) up against the As 7h of Colclough. With the flop (Qs 8s 3h) and the turn (4d) offering no help to Colclough, things were looking very shaky indeed for him until the Ah came floating down the river to send Ephremsen home in third place and £2,200.

The final shakedown began with Colcough and De Freitas virtually matched for chips, Jason holding a lead of a mere 500. A mammoth one hundred and twenty-two hands of heads up play came to a climax when De Freitas went all in pre-flop with Ac 7h and Colclough, holding Kc 8s, called; the flop (Jd 4s 7c) turned up a seven for De Freitas, but the turn dropped down the Ks. Only an ace on the river could save Jason, but down came another king (Kh)- handing victory, the trophy, and the cash to Dave Colcough.

Jason wins £3,500 for second place and Dave takes home £5,600 for first.
