Tournament Report

The final table of the $600 7-Card Stud was a local affair with seven of the players residing in the area and playing regularly at Foxwoods.

John Suttie of Boston, MA, was able to convert his starting position as the final table chip leader into a victory. The championship ride was not completely smooth sailing as John was down to the felt with four players remaining but he came storming back to claim the Championship Trophy, the commemorative leather jacket and prize money of $42,883!

A total of 238 players began the tournament on Tuesday competing for a prize pool of $124,296.

After a Noon start on Wednesday, the final table lost its first player when Matt Kelly of Fort Worth, TX, went all-in after 25 minutes of play. Matt had K's up but had to concede defeat when Rob Robinson hit trip A's. Matt collected $3,107 for 8th place. Larry StJean had two pair (4's up) on second street but Ken Frye had 7's and hit a second pair on the river. Larry took $3,329 for 7th place home to Salisbury Beach, MA. Shortly thereafter, John Lahoud, a survivor of several earlier all-ins, went all-in again with pocket 10's but Elias Eoanou turned over pocket A's. John, a resident of Portsmouth, RI, could not catch up and he was the 6th place winner of $4,351.

Mike Salem of Hope Valley, RI, doubled up through John Suttie with a full house but two hands with pocket A's could not produce a winner. In his final hand he had 9's to Rob's 7's but when Rob hit a second pair on the river, Mike was left in 5th place with $5,593.

John was down to his last 32K when he began a remarkable run which saw him double up three hands in a row to vault himself into a dominant position. Elias Eoanou of Westerly, RI, had A7 to John's A3 but John ended up with K's full to leave Elias in 4th good for $7,458.

Two hands later Rob Robinson, down to his last chips, could not connect as John's 8's held; Rob claimed 3rd place and returned home to Nashua, NH, with $12,119.

With two players left, John had a five to one advantage which Kenneth Frye was able to chip away at for several hands. Ken climbed back to virtually even until his K's up ran into John's Q's full. Ken could not recover and in the end his A's could not catch up to John's two pair. Ken, a resident of East Greenwich, RI, collected $21,751 for his second place finish.

John Suttie had come all the way back to win the 2007 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $600 7-Card Stud Championship!
