Tournament Report

BILL SIMPSON TAKES FINAL TABLE THE TITLE AND $87,389 For the third consecutive year a record number of players turned out for the 2007 Foxwoods World Poker Finals Seniors No-Limit Championship. Shooting for a Prize Pool of $276,983 were 535 seniors and the last one standing was Shelton, CT, resident, Bill Simpson who overcame stiff competition to claim the Championship Trophy, commemorative leather jacket and $87,389! With four players remaining, Bill was the chip leader by a 2 to 1 margin over each of the other players. Third place was taken by Rawley Hansen who was all-in with A8; Larry Lubliner called with KJ. A flop of AK10 gave the edge to Rawley but a Q on the turn gave Larry a straight and Rawley had $24,928 to take home to Brockton, MA. Dean Parro of Perkinsville, Ontario, had the better hand when he went all-in with AJ. Rawley had A8 but an 8 on the flop and another on the river gave 4th place money of $16,619 to Dean. Bob Williams, Salem, NH, had earlier built a sizable stack when his pocket 8's topped Rawley's 6's but when his AK lost to Bill's pocket J's, Bob was down to felt. The last hand was anti-climatic and Bob was the 5th place winner of $12,465. Amir Doroudian felt pretty good going all-in with pocket K's. However, Larry turned over A6 and a board of 87295 gave Larry a straight; Amir, a resident of Derry, NH, took home 6th place and $9,694. Steve Schlesinger was the defending Champion in this event but had to settle for 7th position this year. The Syosset, NY, resident had A7 but Rawley had pocket 8's which held; Steve won $8,309 for his efforts. Trent Formaggioni had pocket 9's for his final all-in but Rawley turned over pocket 10's and Trent would take 8th place and $6,925 home to Agawam, MA. The final table short stack, Kane Khamphouvong of New Britain, CT, was able to improve to 9th. He found himself in 3 way action with Dean and Bob. He was all-in for 61K with KJ; both Dean (AQ) and Bob (Qd8d) were all-in after a 2d4Q flop. Diamonds on the turn and river gave Bob the main and side pots and Kane had $5,540 for 9th. Wellfleet, MA, resident, Fred Magee, had pocket A's for his all-in; Steve called with KQ and a K9510J board gave Steve a straight. Steve had Fred out chipped by 144K to 143K and Fred was the 10th place winner of $4,293. When heads-up action began, Larry Lubliner was the clear chip leader after eliminating Rawley. The action see-sawed back and forth until Larry went all-in with KJ after a J109 flop. Bill called with pocket K's and with no help on the turn and river, Larry was short-stacked. In the end his K10 was no match for Bill's AQ and Larry would return home to Chicago, IL, with 2nd place and $44,317.
