Tournament Report

TWICE AS NICE! JOHN TRIFONE WINS AGAIN $104,225 FOR FIRST!

As Yogi Berra said, "It was déjà vu all over again," as John Trifone won for the second time in the 2007 Foxwoods World Poker Finals by taking the $600 No-Limit Championship! John won the first $600 No-Limit last week and today the Newington, CT, resident was once again the winner of the Championship Trophy, commemorative leather jacket and $104,225!

Of the 672 players who began on Wednesday, 27 returned at Noon today to compete for the Championship. After three hours the Final Table was determined and Jonathan von Oy, a resident of Harwinton, CT, was the first to depart. Jonathan was all-in with K10 but Joseph Ready called with A4 and with no help from the board Jonathan was the 10th place winner of $5,385. After Matt Rosen bet 165K with AQ, Brandon Hawkins pushed all-in for 233K with pocket J's. With an A on the turn, Brandon was in 9th position and would return to Wakefield, RI, with $6,948.

Gordon Eng was down to his last 60K and took a chance with A4; Joe had pocket J's which this time proved to be a winner as Gordon got no help from the board. Gordon, a resident of Cliffside Park, NJ, would take home $8,685 for 8th place. John Pito of Middletown, CT, decided to take a stand with pocket 5's but Matt turned over pocket A's; John was the 7th place winner of $10,423. After a 585 flop, Louis Lombardi was all-in with A8 but John had pocket K's and Lou could not improve. Lou would finish in 6th place and take $12,159 home to Miller Place, NY. After surviving several all-ins, Richard DiNunzio had pocket 2's and pushed all-in once again. Joe called with AQ and a Q on the flop left Rich in 5th; the Highland Heights, OH, resident won $15,634.

With four players left, Matthew Rosen of Las Vegas, NV, was the short stack; he doubled up twice but when he went all-in with A5 in the BB, he could not top Arkadiy Tsinis' pocket 10's. Matt was the 4th place winner of $20,661. Now down to three, Joseph Ready was the chip leader by a three to one margin. But with the blinds at 15K/30K wide swings were possible. John went all-in with Jd10d; Joe had A7 but John caught a flush on the river to even things up. Joe lost two pots to Arkadiy and with the blinds now at 20K/40K Joe was the short stack. After a Q97 flop, Joe went all-in with A9. John took his time and decided to call with 96 and a 6 on the river left Joe, a resident of Boston, MA, in 3rd with $28,661.

John was in a dominant position which he used to his advantage. The final hand was anticlimactic as John's 10 kicker provided the edge and Arkadiy Tsinis was the 2nd place winner. The Las Vegas, NV, native collected $54,892 for his efforts.

And for the second time in a week, John Trifone was the winner of the 2007 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $600 No-Limit Championship!!
