Tournament Report
A total of 520 players entered the $1000 No-Limit Hold'em event in the 2007 Foxwoods World Poker Finals.
With a total prize pool of $460,994 on the line, Nam Le stormed to victory. The players at the final table collectively had
over $8,000,000 in lifetime winnings but Nam was able to persevere and claim the Championship Trophy, commemorative
leather jacket and the First Place prize of $145,427!!
Two tables returned at Noon on Friday to continue the quest for the Championship and the final table was
determined by 2 pm. Shortly after play began, the short stack, David Schulman of Scarborough, NY, went in with
pocket 8's. David could not catch up to Ryan Young's pocket J's and David was the 10th place winner of $7,145. The
blinds moved to the next level before Ed Pelham, a resident of Stamford, CT, bet his last 100K on AK. Adam Lippert
called with pocket 8's and a K on the flop gave him hope. But Adam hit a set on the turn and Ed was left in 9th place with
$9,219. After another hour of play, Ryan Young decided to see if pocket 8's would work magic for him. But Nam Le
had pocket 9's and Ryan would return home to Torrance, CA, with $11,523 for 8th. Just before the end of the next level,
Ronnie Kevin was all-in for 200K; Nam thought for a while before calling. Ronnie turned over A6 and Nam had A3. A
64258 board gave Nam a straight and Ronnie, a resident of Richland, NJ, was the 7th place winner of $13,828.
After having lost one player at each level, play accelerated with the blinds at 12K/24K as the next three went out
in quick succession. On the first hand, Joseph Cote of Wethersfield, CT, was all-in with Q8 after a J82 flop. Frank
DiPietro called immediately with KJ; a K on the turn sealed Joseph's fate and he was relegated to 6th with $16,134. On the
next hand Frank called Adam Lippert's AK all-in with J10. When J10 came on the flop and Adam could only catch an A
on the river, Adam had 5th place money of $20,742 to take home to Brooklyn, NY. Manuel Teixeira of Naugatuck, CT,
survived one all-in over Frank with Q's but he could not connect with Q10 as Chris had pocket 6's and, with a 6 on the
turn, Manuel was in 4th place. Manuel collected $27,657 for his efforts.
With three players remaining, Frank DiPietro was the chip leader with Chris Bjorin and Nam Le trailing. But
both Chris and Nam doubled up through Frank with Broadways. When the blinds went to 20K/40K, the chip stacks were
virtually identical. Chris Bjorin of London, England, called Nam's all-in after an A106 flop with AQ. But Nam had A10
and Chris was left with just over 50K. He doubled up three times until his K6 could not catch up to Frank's pocket 9's.
Chris was the 3rd place winner of $41,485.
Frank DiPietro of Brewster, NY, trailed Nam by a three to one margin entering heads-up play. They traded
chips until Frank saw a 55J flop with 57. He went all-in with the set and Nam called with Qd6d. Two diamonds on the
flop and two more on the turn and river gave Nam a flush and left Frank in 2nd position with $73,751!
And Nam Le was the 2007 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $1000 No-Limit Champion!!
