Tournament Report

A field of 160 players began play on Monday in pursuit of the title of the 2007 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $5000 No-Limit Championship and a prize pool totaling $751,750. Eighteen returned at noon on Tuesday and by 3 pm the Final Table was underway. When it was over after eight hours of play, Paul Lieu of Aurora IL, emerged victorious. Paul took proud possession of the Championship Trophy, commemorative leather jacket and $278,148!!

The Final Table short stack, Mizra Nagji, was all-in shortly after the game was underway. Mizra had pocket Q's but Paul Lieu had pocket K's and Mizra was out in 10th position. The New York City resident took home $15,035. Alex Kamberis of Round Lake, IL, was left with 12K when his pocket 9's lost after an AQ10 flop to Young Phan's AK. Alex had pocket 2's the next hand but once again an A on the flop gave the pot to Ryan Young's AK. Alex was the 9th place winner of $16,915. After finishing 8th in the $1000 No-Limit event, Ryan Young was on his second final table of the 2007 FWPF. He could not, however, improve and was once again in 8th place today. Ryan, a resident of Torrance, CA, moved in with KQ and was called by Paul with J10. An AKQ on the board gave the win to Paul and left Ryan with earnings of $18,793. Chad Brown, with pocket A's on his penultimate hand, was left with 55K when Danny Wong flopped a set of 3's. He was then all-in with K10 and could not catch up to Randy Haddox's AJ; Chad would have 7th place winnings of $22,553 to take home to Los Angeles, CA.

Eric Haber went all-in with K's when the Final Table began. He won that hand and lifted himself from the second short stack to 6th place. Eric had pocket 10's for his last play but Paul with AJ caught A's up and Eric, who resides in Syosset, NY, was the winner of $30,070. The 5th position was claimed by Randy Haddox of Houston, TX. Randy pushed all-in with AJ; Young Phan thought for some time before calling with pocket Q's. The board did not improve Randy's hand and he was the winner of $37,587. Tom Dobrilovic of West Nyack, NY, struggled all day and was finally in with pocket 2's. Young called with A9 and Tom looked good until a 9 came on the turn; Tom was left in 4th place with $48,864.

With three players remaining , Paul had the chip lead with Young and Danny trailing. They played through two levels until the blinds went to 10K/20K. Danny Wong built his short stack into the lead but his fortunes turned when he had AJ and a J came on the turn. He was all-in and Young called with pocket Q's. Danny was then all-in with A8; an A on the turn gave hope but Paul had flopped two pair and Danny was left with less than 60K. Danny's last hand was anti-climatic as his 7's lost to Young's two pair. Danny took 3rd place money of $77,055 back to Walnut, CA.

The chip stacks were virtually identical with a slight edge to Garden Grove, CA, resident, Young Phan. He lost any advantage when he was all-in with pocket 10's; Paul had AK and caught a flush on the river. Young held on until his pocket 8's lost to K7 as the board showed 956810 to give Paul a straight. Young, who finished 3rd in the $1500 No-Limit event, was the 2nd place winner of $142,832!!

And Paul Lieu was the winner of the 2007 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $5000 No-Limit Championship!!
