The Omaha Hi-Lo-8 or Better event drew 108 entrants and 102 players chose to rebuy taking the prize pool to $20,790.
The final table began play at 8:20 with 10 players and the blinds were $700-$1500 at the $1,500-$3,000 limit.
George Geros was making his third final table appearance. George finished 5th in the first Limit Hold’em event and 5th in the Championship Limit Hold’em event, Two players at the final table were making their second appearance; Dennis Derge finished 4th in the No-Limit Hold’em event and Bernard Treynet, finished 3rd in the Championship Limit Hold’em event.
On the second hand of play at the final table Bear Reaves was all-in on his big blind for $1,300. Hamid raised and George Geros called on his small blind. The board came 2-10-Q-10-Q and George scooped the pot with a Q-2. Bear collected $484 for his 10th place finish.
On the 10th hand of final table play Chris Sinclair, the chip leader, got Hamid all-in before the flop. The board showed Q-8-9-K-10 and Chris scooped Hamid with kings up. Hamid took $568 for his 9th place finish.
At 8:55 the limit increased to $2,000-$4,000 with $1,000-$2,000 blinds.
Seven hands later George raised all-in and Brian Saltus called. The board came 7-7-5-A-10 and Brian scooped the pot with aces-up. George took 8th place and $694.
At 9:25 the players took a short break. Chris was still holding on to the lead with $42,500, Brian was in second place with $37,500, Dennis Derge was in third with $19,500, Leon Khochyan had a hold on fourth with $17,500, just a smidgen more than Bill Boston who was hanging on to $17,000, Bernard was just barely below Bill with $16,500 and Lonny Berends was in real trouble with only $6,500.
After the break the limit went to $3,000-$6,000 and the blinds were $1,500-$3,000.
On the fourth hand Leon raised, Lonny went all-in with his remaining $6,000 and Brian called. The flop came A-7-10, Leon and Brian checked. The turn card was a king and they checked again. The river was a queen and again they both checked. Leon showed A-8-3-4 and scooped the pot with a pair of aces. Lonny departed in 7th place and took home $873.
Three hands later Chris increased his chip lead to $60,000 after scooping a pot from Leon.
Five hands after Chris increased his lead, Bill Boston ran into Bernard. Both players had flop a pair of fives but Bernard had a ace kicker to Bill’s queen kicker. Bill was now in trouble with only $3,500.
Three hands later Bill raised all-in for his remaining $3,500 and both Dennis and Bernard called the extra $500. The flop came 2-10-3, Dennis and Bernard checked. The turn card was a six and they checked again. The river was a deuce and they checked for the last time. Bernard scooped the pot with an A-8 for low and pocket aces for high. Bill had to relinquish his seat in 6th place and collected $1,123.
When the clock went off the $500 chips were raced off, the blinds went to $2,000-4,000 and the limit was raised to $4,000-$8,000.
Five hands later Leon raised and Bernard called. The flop came 8-K-5, Bernard bet and Leon called all-in. The turn card came a queen and the river came a three. Bernard had flopped a set of eights and rivered a low with A-4, scooping Leon. Leon took 5th place and $1,476.
On the very next hand another player was sent packing. Dennis raised all-in and both Bernard and Brian called. The board came K-A-10-Q-5 and Bernard showed a 10-J for the nut straight. Dennis finished in 4th place and took home $1,975.
Ten hands later Brian played his last hand. Brian raised, Bernard called and Chris called. The flop came 2-2-K, Brian bet, Chris called and Bernard called. The turn card was a five, Brian bet all-in for his remaining $1,000, Chris called and Bernard called. The river came a four, Chris bet and Bernard called. Chris made a full house and Bernard made a wheel. Brian was sent home in 3rd place and took $2,682.
At 10:45 Chris and Bernard were heads-up with Bernard slightly in the lead with $90,000 to Chris’ $66,000. They agreed on a financial deal and continued to play for the perks.
Five hands later they were even in chips and at 10:50 the limit increased to $6,000-$12,000 with $3,000-$6,000 blinds.
Nine hands later Chris had the lead with $92,000 to Bernard’s $64,000.
Several hands later Chris was in trouble with only $20,000 left.
On the 29th hand of heads-up play Chris and Bernard got into a raising war until Chris was all-in. The flop came 10-4-3, Chris showed A-7-J-J and Bernard showed A-5-K-Q. Chris was in the lead with a pair of jacks. The turn card came a five and Chris was still in the lead with a pair of jacks and a seven low. The river was brutal for Chris, it came a deuce and gave Bernard a wheel. Chris went from all to nothing when the deuce hit the board. Chris took 2nd place and $3,846.
At 11:30 Bernard was declared the champ and took home $7,069 for his 1st place finish. This was Bernard’s second final table appearance and is in a close race for Best All-around player.
