Tournament Report
The Borgata Winter Open began four days ago with 507 hopefuls. Today, six
of those players made their way to the World Poker Tour set to battle it out
for $1.4 million -- and a Harley-Davidson. The final table was a mix of
experienced pros, internet young-guns, and local hopefuls.
The first to go was local hopeful Ervin Prifti. He was short-stacked coming
in and had to make a move quickly. Unfortunately his KQ ran into a
dominating AK and he finished 6th. Next out was experienced pro Lee
Watkinson, who was fighting an uphill battle with his short stack. He made
a move from the small blind with J9 suited and got called by the big blind
who held K6 -- and the better hand held up. Lee finished 5th.
Internet Young Gun Noah 'FourUhaters' Schwartz was dispatched in 4th place
when he moved in with pocket 9s and was racing against David Tran's KQ.
David won the race. Local hopeful Thomas Hare was definitely the crowd
favorite and he held on as long as he could. His stack was crippled when he
flopped two pair against Gavin's flush and Gavin got the rest of his chips
on the next hand. Thomas finished 3rd.
Heads-up play between internet young-gun Gavin Griffin and experienced pro
David Tran began with David having a 2-million chip advantage. Gavin took
the lead and continued to play aggressively. In the end, it was Gavin who
took it down. With this win, Gavin becomes the only player to have the
hat-trick: a WSOP bracelet, an EPT title and now a WPT title.
