Tournament Report

TULSA, OK - Mitch Merritt of Ponder, TX, wins the 6pm, $300+40 Pot-Limit Hold'em Championship event Tuesday, February 19, during the 'Oklahoma State Championship of Poker' at the Cherokee Casino, in Tulsa. He cashed for $12,257. The champion gave some words of advice. 'Don't chase if you can't catch!'

When heads up play was about to begin, Rodney Spriggs started talking deals. Both were nearly even in chips so Mitch heard him out and agreed on the terms. Mitch took first place title and the championship ring, and Rodney took the WPT seat. Both players receive $12,257 for their efforts.

Mitch's poker wins start from 1998 where he placed 17th in the WSOP Limit Omaha event. His first big score came with a first place finish in a WSOP Circuit Event in New Orleans. His next WSOP score was in 2007 for the 38th annual World Series of Poker.

Mr. Merritt has won his fair share of merits, placing in more than 14 tournaments. His total tournament cashes exceed $75,000.
