Tournament Report
TULSA, OK - Fred Roll of Seneca, MO, is crowned champion in the 1 pm, $3,000+$150 Oklahoma State Championship Main Event Sunday, February 24, during the 'Oklahoma State Championship of Poker' at the Cherokee Casino. 'I'm happy I won. I felt confident about the game and I've been catching cards the last two days,' explains the champion.
The field began with 112 entrants including professional players Barry Johnston and Keith Lehr, both of which busted out early. Participants took a moment of silence when highly decorated poker soldier, the prince himself, Scotty Nguyen bounced out on the bubble. Scotty put his small stack all-in with A♥6♥. Fred Roll ran his pocket jacks to the river against him, sticking him in 10th place.
Fred then went on to roll over the final table in a gut-wrenching display, taking out all but one player and three of them were removed back to back to back. Fred's no new kid on the block, however. His former accomplishments include a 3rd place finish in the 1997 WSOP Limit Omaha event where he made $27,600. 'I really loved playing here,' Fred Roll tells Assistant Tournament Director, Brooks Turk after his win. 'The tournament went really well and you guys did a great job.'
This is the third year Cherokee Casino has held an Oklahoma State Championship of Poker and the poker staff worked exceptionally hard. 'I'm proud of our accomplishments in the poker room here at Cherokee and we look forward to what our improvements will bring for next year,' says Poker Room Manager, Jimmy Simms. |
