The final event of this years “New England Poker Classic” tournament brought out the finest field of 7-Card Stud players ever assembled on the east coast. With a field of 136 the $550 event created a $70,000 prize pool and would pay $23,800 to the eventual winner.

Tournament Director Michael Ward adjusted the structure for this years event ensuring that everyone involved was given enough chips, and levels at which to excel. Starting the event at 11:00 in the morning would lead to a final table at just after 9:00 in the evening.

The final table, which was being broadcast live over the internet on PokerPages.com, was started at the $1,500-3,000 level with just under a half hour remaining to play.

First to be eliminated was Barbara Wik of Coventry, Rhode Island who caught pocket Aces and moved all-in for her last $16,000. Patrick Perrott of Bennington, Vermont called and made nines full of Queens for the win.

Seventh place was collected by Dale Kendall of East Falmouth, Massachusetts when he played tens and sixes and got eliminated by Jacks and eights belonging to Luigi Grilla of Miami, Florida.

Grilla would then fall prey to Perrott when Perrott caught Kings up beating Grilla’s nines up for the pot.

Danny Hofer was then sent to the rail after he played all-in after being the force bet, and making only a pair of fives. Hofer was eliminated when Son To Kim of Milford, New Hampshire who had Kings took the pot.

Fourth place would then be collected by Peter Aborn of Providence, Rhode Island when he raised all-in for his last $6,000 against Kim. Kim made a pair of Jacks while several of Aborn’s draws missed leaving him with Ace high.

The three handed play was measured. Each player had approximately $65,000 in chips at just about 12:30 this morning. Some gutsy play by all the contestants would give the overflow crowd, along with those watching and listening to the coverage on PokerPages.com, a chance to see the highest caliber of tournament poker play.

Third place was secured when with three way action, Perrott would go all-in and miss all his draws finishing with Ace high, losing to Daniel Brodsky of Bayside, New York with a pair of Kings.

Heads up play would soon determine the winner, and crown the champion for this year. Brodsky, who was behind in chips two to one, would be forced to play all-in with a pair of Aces. Kim would make the call having already got trip Jacks, and managed to catch a second Trey for a full house.
