Tournament Report
Brett Faustman Strikes Gold at the World Poker Open
GoldStrike Casino Resort, Tunica, MS
The star-studded final table came together just after 4pm CST Thursday to fight it
out for the almost $900,000 first prize. Two former WPT winners were present and
four of the six players combined have earned enough jewelry to film a rap video: 11
WSOP bracelets and 2 WSOP Circuit Championship rings.
Short-stacked John Spadavcecchia was first to go in 6th place when his pocket sixes
lost a race to Hoyt Corkin's QJ. It then took more than three hours before the next
player departed. Gabe Costner's pocket fives lost a race to Hoyt's AJ and he earned
5th place.
A couple of hours later, a short-stacked Freddy Deeb picked a bad time to make a
move, running his 87 suited into Brett Faustman's AK. This time the best hand held
up and Freddy departed in 4th place.
Following in Freddy's footsteps, Men 'the Master' picked the wrong time to make a
move -- all-in over the top of Hoyt's opening raise. Hoyt's pocket Jacks had Men's
KT suited in bad shape and Men could not catch up, finishing in 3rd place.
Brett Faustman held a small lead at the beginning of heads-up play and at one point
lost the lead to Hoyt during the 43 hands played, but in the end, it was Brett's
pocket Queens defeating Hoyt's pocket deuces. The 28-year-old insurance salesman
was able to wrestle the Alabama Cowboy to the mat.
In addition to the prize money, Brett also received a $25k seat in the WPT
Championship at Bellagio in April and a gold and diamond WPO bracelet. |
