Tournament Report

BILLY HILL TAKES $108,329 FOR FIRST PLACE!!

A total of 582 players entered the $1000 No-Limit Hold'em event in the 2008 Foxwoods Poker Classic.
With a total prize pool of $513,731 on the line, Billy Hill rolled to victory. The final table took a little over four hours before Billy, a resident of Clarksburg, MD, was able to claim the Championship Trophy, commemorative leather jacket and the First Place prize of $108,329!!
Twenty-one players returned at Noon on Friday to continue the quest for the Championship; the final table got under way just before 2 pm. It would take over an hour of play before the final table short stack, Antonio Ribeiro of Naugatuck, CT, would push in his last 70K. Antonio had A5 but Robert Kleinman turned over pocket A's and Antonio would collect 10th place money of $4,623.
The blinds would reach 10K/20K before Steven Levy departed the scene. Steven lost all but 70K when Chris MacNeil showed K's up. Shortly thereafter, Steven was all-in with K2 in three way action with Ray Lynn and Kevin Mahoney. Ray called with pocket Q's and Kevin was all-in with AQ. With a K on the turn, there was hope but Kevin hit a flush on the river to leave Ray with 50K and Steven was the 9th place winner of $5,686.
Ray Lynn would stave off elimination for several hands before going all-in with pocket 2's. Chris MacNeil had pocket Q's, flopped a set and relegated Ray to 8th place; Ray would return to Alexandria, VA, with $7,192.
The blinds were at 12K/24K when Todd Elwood moved all-in with pocket 4's after a 50 K bet by Billy Hill. Billy called the extra 86K with K10 and caught a straight on the river to place Todd in 7th with $10,789 to take home to Southlake, TX. Sixth position was claimed by Robert Kleinman of Somers, NY. Robert saw his stack erode and was finally all-in with K10. Chris MacNeil called with AJ which held up and Robert took home $15,925.
Joseph Calandrino of Oakdale, NY, hung on for 5th. He was left with 90K after he lost a huge hand to Chris MacNeil. He doubled up through Billy but his J6 could not top Kevin Mahoney's A10. Joseph collected $23,632 for his efforts. The blinds moved to 15K/30K and Kevin Mahoney was the short stack. Billy made a sizable bet and Kevin was all-in with J10; but Billy had AQ and a board of K87J10 gave Billy a straight. Kevin, a resident of Woburn, MA, was the 4th place winner of $31,337.
Billy Hill was now the chip leader, after taking Kevin's stack, with Chris MacNeil in second and Brent Keller trailing. After some discussion it was agreed to divide the money remaining in the prize pool based on chip stacks. Brent Keller of Oyster Bay, NY, was the 3rd place winner of $74,179. Christopher MacNeil took 2nd place with $97,990 to take back to Peabody, MA. And Billy Hill was the 2008 Foxwoods Poker Classic $1000 No-Limit Champion!!
