Tournament Report

HEVAD KHAN IS VICTORIOUS! WINS $108,187!

The 2008 Foxwoods Poker Classic $2000 No-Limit Championship began on Monday with 192 entrants competing for a prize pool of $344,544. At noon on Tuesday nine players, several with final table experience, returned to fight for the top prize and after 4 hours of play, Hevad 'Rain' Khan emerged as the champion. Hevad, a resident of Hummelstown, PA, took the Championship trophy, commemorative leather jacket and $108,187!!

Vinny Pahuja, the winner of the 2008 FPC $300 Shoot-out, was unable to repeat today. Vinny called Ken Adams' all-in with AQ after a Q43 flop; but Ken showed pocket K's and Vinny was to finish in 9th position with $8,619 to take home to New York, NY. Alex Muscarella of the Bronx, NY, bet 20K and Sam Zaharopoulos went all-in; Alex called with AJ but Sam had pocket 10's which held up and Alex was left with only 2K. He was all-in the next hand with Q5. David Hickman and Hevad also were all-in: David with AK and Hevad with KJ. The board was 1053KJ which left David with 100K and doubled up Hevad. Alex was the 8th place winner of $10,336.

Michael Binger began the day as the chip leader and maintained his advantage until he went all-in over an 80K bet by Hevad. Hevad called with AQ; Michael said 'Good call' and turned over 6c4c. A Q75 flop gave Hevad a pair and Michael a straight draw; the turn and river were no help and Michael was left with 150K and Hevad doubled up again and vaulted into the chip lead. Hevad added to his stack just before the end of the level. Mike 'Little Man' Sica was all-in for 46K with pocket 5's. Serafim Zaharopoulos came over the top for 100K, Hevad went all-in and Sam called. Sam had pocket 9's and Hevad showed A10. A 10 on the flop knocked out both players and propelled Hevad to a massive lead. Mike Sica of North Brunswick, NJ, finished in 7th with $12,059. Sam, who finished 10th in the 2008 FPC $600 Limit, took $13,782 home to Clifton, NJ, for his 6th place finish.

The blinds moved to 5K/10K and it was not long before David Hickman of Westborough, MA, was all-in for 48K with J10. Michael had Q9 which held and David had $17,227 for 5th place. Gene Castro was all-in for his last 31K with pocket Q's and 3-way action. Ken Adams of Washington, DC, called the 31K and, after Hevad went all-in, Ken called with A7; Hevad showed pocket 10's and K73KJ board left Ken with 4th place and $24,119. Gene Castro collected the main pot when Ken left the table and certainly acquitted himself well by coming from the final table short stack to 3rd position. Gene, a resident of Holmdel, NJ, survived several all-ins and was finally down to the felt and all-in with 79. Michael had A4 and with a 99A flop Gene hoped to stick around; but an A on the turn left Gene $31,008 for his efforts.

As heads-up play commenced Hevad had over a 2 to 1 chip advantage. Michael Binger of Las Vegas, NV, could not make a significant dent in Hevad's stack. Michael held 64 and flopped two pair. Hevad bet 40K, Michael raised to 100K, Hevad went all-in and Michael called. Unfortunately for Michael, Hevad had flopped a flush leaving Michael in 2nd place with $60,296 to ease the pain. And Hevad 'Rain' Khan was the winner of the 2008 Foxwoods Poker Classic $2000 No-Limit Championship!
