Tournament Report
C.R. McFarland Earns the 1st Ring in the 2008 Legends of Poker Event
The 2008 Winnin' Legends of Poker kicked off event #1 with two day 1 fields totaling 797 players. Less than 200 made it to day 2 and the final table was set about 7 hours later just after 2am. All tables started 9-handed and the final table was set with the final nine that ran for a brief eleven hands.
The first four hands of the final table began resulted in at least one player all-in. The pace was set that no one was waiting at this table. On hand #1 Jeremy Scharf pushed his 87K short stack in with pocket Queens. After being called in two places the board was checked down by both opponents. The board was 10c-9c-5s-7s-Ah. Jeremy thought the Ace on the river was the end but neither player held an Ace. Jeremy triples up and was back in the middle of the pack.
On hand #4, after a flop of Ac-Kc-7s, Jeremy led out the betting and was raised all-in by Minh Le. Jeremy made the call for the additional 17K and Minh Le's tournament life was on the line. Jeremy showed 9-9 and Minh showed 7c-4c for the flush draw. The turn 6d and river Ah gave Jeremy the pot and Minh Le finished in 9th place and earned $4,640 for two days work.
Just three hands later, Man Phung bet all-in post flop with a K-Q into a board of Ah-Jh-2h. Both blinds saw the flop and called Man's bet. C.R. McFarland held 9c-7h and John Hanson held 9h-2s. Both opponents on a flush draw but John's pair of ducks was in the lead and he also held the best draw. The turn blanked with a 5s but the river 3h completed the flush and John Hanson dragged a 250,000 pot and Man Phung finished in 8th place for a $6,960 payday.
The final seven players discussed a chip count deal and the numbers were crunched. The figures came back and all players agreed to the deal. C.R. McFarland held the chip lead by only 6,000 chips over Michael Jones. With almost 2.4 million in play it was soooo close. C.R. McFarland was declared the winner and received the first 2008 Legends of Poker ring, a title, and a W-2G with lots of digits.

BIOGRAPHY
C.R. McFarland, an actor and writer, started playing poker back in 2003 just when he relocated to Los Angeles from New York City. He plays both cash games and tournaments but has a strong preference for tournament play. C.R. deliberately does not read poker books but concentrates his reading on topics like human behavior. A graduate from Cornell University in Business, C.R. is currently a working actor/writer and is attached to some big projects 'in the works'. C.R. plays in a weekly home game with some very strong players and attributes his results to the lessons learned from that home game. C.R. wants to dedicate this win to a close friend, Brian Cullivan.
