Barbara Enright Takes Down Another Ladies Event

The 2008 Legends of Poker continued with Event #5, a $340 buy-in Ladies No Limit Hold'em tournament part of the Ladies International Poker Series (LIPS). A field of 101 of mostly ladies took a shot at the $29.061 prize pool. The final table included one of two men who played the event. Action started with seconds left in Level 10 with antes of 200 and blinds of 600/1,200.

The very first hand Gina Hecht raised to 3,600 from the small blind. Katrina Lim pushed all-in for another 5,600 more with Kh-Qh. Gina called with A-7. The flop came 10-Qh-Jh giving Katrina top pair with straight and flush draws. The river 6h gave Katrina the flush and an early double up.

It wasn't until 37 hands later where we saw our first elimination. On hand #38 Angelique Jimenez was short stacked pushed all-in with 10-7 from the small blind and called by Barbara Enright from the big blind with 8-6. A board of K-6-A-4-2 gave Barbara a pair of 6's and eliminated Angelique in 10th place for $510.

A couple hands later Grace Wang pushed all-in with Q-J for 10.9K and was called by John Vorhaus who held pocket Queens. The board of A-5-5-6-J knocked Grace out in 9th place for $580.

On hand #66 Krystal Javier raised preflop to 10K and Gina Hecht pushed all-in with Q-J. Krystal called with A-Q and found herself in a dominating position as the board came 5-5-K-A-J and Gina Hecht was out in 8th place for $655.

While John Vorhaus dressed appropriately for the ladies event wearing a red-haired wig and a dress, he was a marked man by the rest of the ladies at the final table. On hand #78 John pushed all-in from the cutoff with A-5 and was called by Barbara Enright from the big blind with A-K. The board came Q-9-3-J-Q and Barbara's big slick held to the delight of the rest of the ladies to eliminate John, who came to the final table as the chip leader, out in 7th place for $725.

Hand #86 saw Krystal Javier go all-in for 17K with pocket Tens and called by Barbara's A-Q. An Ace on the flop put Krystal in bad shape and when the board read A-7-4-2-5 Krystal was out in 6th place for $1,015.

On hand #100, Halli Pinson pushed all-in from the button with K-10 and was called by Andrea Henry who held A-6. The board came 2-7-7-9-A and Andrea Henry's pair of Aces took it down and sent Halli out in 5th place for $1,305. Ten hands later Katrina Lim, who began the final table as one of the short stacks, pushed all-in with A-10. She was called by Elizabeth Oullette who held J-10. Katrina was in a great position to double up but a flop of 7-J-8 gave Elizabeth the pair of Jacks and the lead. The turn deuce and river 7 brought no help to Katrina as she was eliminated in 4th place for $1,745.

On hand #119, Andrea Henry pushed all-in with 7-6 and was called by Elizabeth Ouellette who held A-J. The flop of 4-8-10 gave Andrea a double-gutshot straight draw. However the turn 8 and river Q were no help and Elizabeth's Ace high was good enough to send Andrea out in 3rd place for $2,760.

Heads up play began with Elizabeth Ouellette holding a 3 to 1 chiplead over Barbara Enright. Both ladies were patient for the first few hands seeing cheap flops. Barbara then became the aggressor making raises preflop and betting most flops. Heads up play ended on hand #186 with both players limping in to see a flop of 7-8-K. Elizabeth pushed all-in with Q-8 and was called by Barbara who held K-5. The turn 5 gave Barbara two-pair. The river 7 ended it for Elizabeth who finished in 2nd place for $5,375 and with that Barbara Enright became the winner of Event #5 of the Legends of Poker.

BIOGRAPHY

Barbara Enright is best known for her 5th place finish at the 1995 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. She recently took 1st at the Ladies No Limit Hold'em WSOP Circuit Event in April. Barbara has done well in ladies tournaments in the past so it shouldn't come as a surprise to take this evening's event down.
Although she came to the final table as one of the short stacks her strategy was “to win”. Barbara was patient throughout the tournament picking her spots. It was when she got heads up where she realized she had a great chance of winning the event and that she did.
